Family Support Significant to Success of Indian Diaspora in the UK: Report

The Diaspora Effect 2 report has been released in the UK that highlighted that family support is one of the factors in the success of the Indian diaspora in the UK. The Indian diaspora in the UK is now probably around 1.7 million.

Family Support Significant to Success of Indian Diaspora in the UK: Report

According to new research released at theIndian High Commission in London on March 4, 2022, family support among other things, is significant to the success of the Indian diaspora in the UK.

'India in the UK: The Diaspora Effect 2.0', is new research by Grant Thornton and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). The research includes qualitative interviews with several successful diaspora entrepreneurs and professionals who have strengthened Indias partnership with the UK. The UK is now eager to have a Free Trade Agreement(FTA) with India and talks have been raised on the issue.

The findings of the research attribute the success of Indians to strong family support, the willpower to swim against the current, diligence in work, and hope for a better future. Currently, the Indian diasporahas burgeoned to probably 1.7 million in the UK, the report highlighted.

The Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Gaitri Issar Kumar,at the launch event of the research at India House said that the diaspora is the bridge of steel or the living bridge between the UK and India. She called upon the Indian diaspora to work together to keep the excellent ties while maintaining high aspirations.

Baroness Usha Prashar, the chairperson of the FICCI UK Council, has encouraged the role of Indian youth to play an important role in innovation and new technologies at the global level. She emphasized the need to motivate them to address Indian local problems.

The Diaspora Effect 1.0 spotted approximately 654 Indian diaspora-owned or diaspora-led companies that had an annual turnover of GBP 100,000 or more across the UK. The Diaspora report 2.0 coversdiverse entrepreneurial activities in key sectors of healthcare; hospitality and real estate food and beverage, pharmaceuticals and life sciences; retail; financial services, technology, media, and telecoms.
