Indians make up the largest group of foreign people granted a skilled worker visa in the United Kingdom.

According to a British High Commission report, the UK issued over 65,500 skilled worker visas to Indian citizens in the previous year alone.This represents a 14 percent increase over 2019, demonstrating that the points-based immigration system is gaining traction.

The UK and India inked the Migration and Movement Partnership in May 2021, boosting migration cooperation and allowing youth mobility. To operate in the UK, a variety of legal options are available. The skilled worker, graduate, and health and care worker routes are among them.

According to the UK Home Office, the number of UK skilled worker visas granted to foreign citizens has increased by 110 percent since 2020. These visas have helped Indians and Nigerians the most.

In all, 239,987 work-related UK visas were awarded in 2021, including dependent visas. Of these, 150,000 visas were for skilled workers. This is a 25% increase above skilled worker visas given in 2019, before the outbreak.

To qualify for a skilled workers visa in the UK, one must meet the following requirements:

  • Obtain a 'certificate of sponsorship' from your company detailing the position you've been given in the United Kingdom

  • Work for a UK business that has received Home Office approval

  • Be paid a minimum wage, the amount of which varies depending on the sort of work you undertake

  • Work in one of the jobs on the list of those who are qualified.

As part of their ongoing trade discussions, India and the United Kingdom are looking into lowering immigration rules.

The India-UK Migration and Mobility Partnership were formalized last year by Indians in the UK. Around 3,000 young students and professionals, every year are expected to benefit from additional work experience perks in either nation under the proposal. By April 2022, it is projected to be fully operational.
