The Senior Minister of Security Cluster, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has released an official statement according to which intentional students will be allowed to enter Malaysia once again starting from January 1, 2021. However, there will be restrictions for students coming from the United Kingdom (UK) after a new highly infectious form of COVID-19 has been detected in various parts of the country.
In a press conference, Ismail said that only those students who have already received the offer letter from schools and universities and meet the eligibility criteria will be allowed to enter the country. He further said that the government will not allow students to travel to and from the UK to limit the spread of COVID-19 and this decision had been made by the National Security Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education.
Guidelines for International Students Travelling to Malaysia:
According to Ismail, incoming students to Malaysia must follow the guidelines mentioned below:
Must adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as set by the National Security Council.
Must take COVID-19 test three days prior to travelling to Malaysia.
Must undergo another swab test the minute they reach at Malaysia airport
Must undergo 10 days quarantine at locations gazetted by the government, even if the COVID-19 test result is negative.
