Jharkhand CM Urges PM to Allow Ukraine Returned Students to Complete Studies in India

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has urged him to look into the matter of medical students who have returned from the war-torn country Ukraine.

Soren further asked the PM to issue a relevant direction for these students as they are unsure of their future.

The CM took to his official Twitter handle and wrote that he has written to PM Modi "appreciating his sincere efforts" for evacuating Indian medical students trapped in the war-hit country. Soren added that he has also urged Narendra Modi to provide the concerned ministry with relevant direction enabling students to complete their education in India.

The Jharkhand CM also attached the letter he wrote to the PM in his tweet. The letter read that over 180 medical students have returned to Jharkhand and for this, he conveyed his gratitude to Modi for ensuring effective evacuation.

Soren said that the ongoing crisis in Ukraine with uncertainty over the restoration of normalcy is affecting such students and their parents mentally. Retaliating the demands, he said that the government should take tangible steps to ensure that these students complete their studies in India.

The 46-year-old highlighted that the Supreme Court of India had also directed the authorities to provide appropriate measures, however, so far no instruction has been received from GOI or National Medical Commission.

Meanwhile, last month, Ukraine returnees joined a pan-India protest along with their parents near Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to urge the central government to allow such medical students to complete their courses at state universities.

Over 500 MBBS students and their parents were seen at Jantar Mantar with placards that read “Save the career of Indian MBBS students”.
