Following the increasing demand for the option of taking tests at home, Pearson has announced the introduction of the PTE Academic Online test from January 2022. As per media reports, the remote test option will follow the two-hour in-person PTE Academic test.

Announcing the introduction, Pearson also pointed out that the 2-hour online PTE Academic test will not be available for migration or visa purposes.

With this remote option, several hundred universities have also announced its acceptance in the admission process, with some leading universities from around the world such as the University of Manitoba and Humber College in Canada, the University of Oxford and the University of York in the UK, and US University of Southern California, the University of Alabama and Arizona State University.

The Pie News also reported that the University of Canterbury in New Zealand and Macquarie University as well as RMIT in Australia are among the few top universities that are accepting the PTE Academic Online test scores as well.

Speaking to the media in 2021, Freya Monk, spoke about Pearsons plans of rolling the test out in 2022 in China. It was also reported that the PTE Academic Online test is currently operational in all countries excluding Cuba, China, and Iran.

She added that the widespread availability and acceptance of the online test is proof of the demand for a secure and trusted remote test, i.e., a test that can be taken at home. Further, the remote test allows students to still participate, in case, of lockdowns or other such restrictions due to the public or global situations, such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the same month, Pearson had also announced the new and improved PTE Academic test, where the test became a two-hour test, after reducing one hours worth of questions from the original test.
