The CAQ application of 10 DLIs, which was earlier suspended in Quebec province of Canada, will now be resumed. The decision has been taken by the Supreme court looking at the inconvenience of students.

Quebec: Processing of Suspended International Student CAQ Applications to be Resumed

The CAQ application of international students enrolled in 10 listed DLIs of Quebec that was earlier suspended by the Ministry of Immigration, Francization, and Integration (MIFI) will now be accepted, as per the latest Supreme Courts decision.

Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) is the document that an applicant needs to submit to study in an institute in Quebec. A number of DLIs likeCanada College, CDI, and the Montreal Campus of Cegep de la Gaspesie et des Iles were affected by the decision of suspension of application earlier and thus they had appealed the Supreme Court to look into the decision taken by the Ministry.

The Superior Court has taken the decision in favour of institutes and hasasked MIFI to resume the processing of the applications and renewals stating that the suspension of the application is inconvenient for students who have made plans and organised their lives to study in Quebec.

Now that the decision has been made by the Court, thousands of students who were not able to obtain the study permit for Quebec will now be able to receive it or continue to study in Quebec in upcoming semesters.

About Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs)

DLIs are approved educational institutions by the Quebec government to enrol international students for higher education and students at DLIs are eligible to apply for the post-Graduation Work Permits (PGWPs) in Canada.

Quebec has the majority of private educational institutions approved at DLI in Canada owing its status and opportunities for international students.

An international student who desires to study in Quebec must first shortlist the program of study and a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and then complete the admission process for the selected course. Once the student is selected, he/ she receives a letter of acceptance after which the student must apply for a CAQ which is required for studies of more than six months.
