The International Education Practitioner Program, which was initially introduced as a "key component" of the government's International Education Strategy in 2021, is intended to boost Saskatchewan's international education program.
Gene Makowsky, minister of advanced education, says the International Education Practitioner Program will offer post-secondary education training in international education to support a consistent level of knowledge and understanding about international engagement.
This initiative increases sector capacity to accommodate foreign students and contributes to the University of Saskatchewan's Growth Plan goals by promoting the province as a study destination of choice.

The programis planned to be completed by March 2023 by 78 workers of postsecondary education institutions who have been nominated to participate.
The Canadian Bureau for International Education has agreed to provide instruction at the basic, intermediate, and advanced levels.
Courses will provide information on student recruiting and admission methods, international student services and supports, international relations and partnership development techniques, and international student mobility in Saskatchewan.
CBIE, Canada's national voice of the international education sector, is delighted to collaborate with the government of Saskatchewan in the design and delivery of this innovative and unprecedented capacity-building initiative aimed at international education practitioners across the province, according to its president and CEO Larissa Bezo.
Pirita Mottola, interim director of Strategic Enrolment Management at the University of Saskatchewan, expects that the program will allow practitioners to share their experiences, maintain their professional development, and strengthen their networks across the province.
She went on to say that the initiative will help boost our collective competitiveness and responsiveness in a rapidly changing global education environment.
International students contributed about CAD 252 million to Saskatchewan's economy each year prior to the epidemic.

Institutions are to establish objectives around the number of foreign students they intend to attract depending on their capabilities, as they are best prepared to do so, according to the province's 2021 plan for international education.
