Six Engineering Students from India Win Awards from the Largest Astronomy Competition

A proud moment for India and LPU as six aerospace engineering students from the prestigious university have bagged awards in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition 2021. The students competed within the Youth and Junior categories where they received the Gold, Silver and Bronze Honours among 1,300 final contestants.

Six Engineering Students from India Win Awards from the Largest Astronomy Competition

Celebrating the advancement and development in Astronomy and Astrophysics, six students from the prestigious Lovely Professional University have been conferred medals and awards in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition (IAAC) 2021.

IAAC has been regarded as one of the largest Astronomy and Astrophysics competitions in the world, where students from across the globe compete and win several prizes. As per numerous sources, 4,700 students usually compete in this prestigious competition, especially from countries such as the UK, the US, Russia, China, Canada, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, New Zealand and South Korea among others.

The six LPU students took the win from a total of 1,300 students, where they had received, Gold, Silver and Bronze medals under the Youth and Junior categories of the competition.

Gopalchetty Brahma and Vinay Kumar Reddy Andluri were each awarded the Gold Honour under the Youth Category, i.e. Above 18 Category. Meanwhile, Akash Sharma and MS Ragul were honoured by the Silver Honour under the Youth Category as well.

The final two students Sathwick Bikumallan was awarded the Gold Honour while Bhanu Kapeendra Majety received the Bronze Honour in the Junior Category, i.e. Under 18 category of the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition 2021.

The 6 winners were students of the Aerospace Engineering Department at Lovely Professional University and participated in three rounds, i.e. qualification round, pre-final round and the final round. The rounds have been designed to test the in-depth knowledge of the participants in the field of Astronomy and Astrophysics. Each student during a round is given 1 minute to answer each question asked, with an individual timer for each question asked.

The International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition is a tightly invigilated competition, where the latest technologies that include online proctoring, web-based tracking, mouse pointer tracking webcam tracking and more are used to reduce the chances of unfair means being used within the contest.
