PSI Services and the Scottish Qualifications Authority have been able to earn a UKVI-approved Secure English Language Test tag for its Skills for English test. Previously, PSI had come to a commercial agreement with the UK Home Office last year to become the body responsible for delivery SELT for UK visa applicants from abroad.
Currently, Chinese students have the access to the entirely computer-based testing experience from PSI through the global testing centres since October 12, 2020. Sources claim that the other countries will receive the same access, later in the year.
Janet Garcia, the Executive vice-president of PSI’s Global Credential Division, commented that the UKVI approval is widely recognised as a hallmark for a high-quality and effective qualification, which now also includes the Skills for English test.
The director of Business Development at SQA, John McMorris, stated that the approval had been the result of an “intense period of work” between the two organisations. Both the organisations worked hard to develop a qualification that can assist those who wish to study, work or settle in an English-speaking country.
Mc Morris added that while earning the UKVI-approved SELT is a major milestone, the organisation will be working on developing and expanding the Skills for English brand for a variety of other purposes as well.

Receiving the UKVI SELT approval allows Skills for English test to be used for the different types of visa applications that require proof of English Language proficiency.
However, like every other sector, COVID-19 has affected the launch and test bookings of Skills for English. It has been decided now that China and Hong Kong will be able to avail bookings in a phased manner. Meanwhile, the tests in the rest 120 countries will commence a month later.
Taking into consideration the various local, state and international regulations on hosting activities, the SELT centres will adhere to all COVID-19 related safety procedures.
