UKCISA Selects 12 New International Student Ambassadors for 2021-22

A group of 12 new International Student ambassadors have been selected by the UKCISA who will join the #WeAreInternational Student Ambassador Programme 2021-22. The 12 students will resume their posts in January 2021 and work on improving the international student experience.

UKCISA Selects 12 New International Student Ambassadors for 2021-22

A dozen new international students have been selected to become international student ambassadors, as announced by the UK Council for International Student Affairs. The 12 international students will join the #WeAreInternational Ambassador Programme in 2021-22.

The 12 international students had been selected from a group of 205 international students. The selected students are currently pursuing higher education in 9 different UK universities and come from 11 different countries.

Here is the list of the 2021-22 International Student Ambassadors:

  • Melody Noella Sequeira -University of Glasgow (UG) -India

  • Simran Mahajan -Cardiff University (PGT) -Kenya

  • Sagar Singh Grewal - LSE & London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (PGT) -Canada

  • Juan Ramon Candia Jorquera -University of York (PhD) -Chile

  • Mary Wanjiru Wanjohi -University of Warwick (PGT) -Kenya

  • Umme Sumaiyah -University of Portsmouth (PhD) -Bangladesh

  • Reese M. Chamberlain -University of Edinburgh, (UG) -USA

  • Siqi Jia -University of Glasgow (UG) -China

  • Ilona Susanna Myllyniemi -University of Edinburgh, (UG) -Finland

  • Natalia Nassonova -University of Leeds (UG) -Estonia

  • Anna Tiffany So -University of Dundee (UG), Hong Kong SAR -China

  • Claudia Mylena Yanez Ospina -University of Glasgow (PhD) -Peru

Starting January 2021, the new ambassadors will resume their posts on the education policy and leadership development scheme, officially. Earlier in 2020, another group of nine ambassadors had formed the inaugural group, to which the 12 new ambassadors will be added.

In a statement released by Anne-Marie Graham, the Chief Executive at UKCISA, she stated that the organisation wishes to work with the student ambassadors and help in providing a world-class international student experience, thus, driving the #WeAreInternational campaign ahead.

For 2021-22, 30 students were shortlisted by a panel of 20 judges from the pool of applicants. These students were then further interviewed, which lead to the final 12 ambassadors to be selected for the next year.

Along with empowering the international students as key partners in moulding quality student experience, the ambassadors will also be asked to lead the #WeAreInternational campaign and establish an inclusive global student community.
