US Consulate in Hyderabad to Get 55 New Windows for Improving Visa Services

The soon-to-be Consul General of the Hyderabad Consulate has revealed, in a luncheon organised by an Indian-American entrepreneur and philanthropist, her efforts in improving visa services and strengthening the India-US relationship.

With the US putting in efforts to facilitate quicker visa processing, a senior US diplomat has promised that a total of 55 windows will soon be opened for visa services in the US consulate in Hyderabad. The diplomat added that the consulate services are also expected to improve dramatically as well.

Jennifer Larson, the senior US diplomat, soon to lead the Hyderabad US Consulate as the Consul General, stated that she will be working towards improving the visa services as well as the India-US relationship.

Larson, in a meet and great luncheon, outlined in detail her efforts in improving the visa services, which included opening up 55 windows for visa interviews, thus improving the services dramatically.

Larson, about to undertake her second stint after her stint as a US Consul in Mumbai, answered questions regarding immigration issues, bilateral relations and the long wait times for receiving visas. The organisers of the luncheon stated that she highlighted student visas receiving the highest priority.

Ravi Kota, Minister of Economics at the Embassy of India, remarked on the potential opportunities for strengthening the economic relations between the US and its consular jurisdiction in India which covers Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha.

Indian-American entrepreneur and philanthropist, Ravi Puli, who organised the luncheon in honour of Jennifer Larson, stated that the Hyderabad Consulate will soon be the largest consulate in Asia, which will bring in more job opportunities in both countries, specifically in the Telegu states.

In his statements, Puli stated that there is a high talent pool but the unemployment rate continues to be high.  He emphasised “not forgetting our roots” and “empowering people back home while contributing to the country” people are living in.

Previously, the US embassy also announced an in-person visa interview waiver for select visa categories till 31 December 2022. According to the report, the applicants seeking F, H-1, H-3, H-4, non-blanket L, M, O, P, Q and academic J visas will be eligible for the in-person interview waiver. Additionally, the US visa also reintroduced the in-person B1/B2 visa appointments.
