U.S. News Ranks University of Georgia Among Top 20 in Best Public Universities Category

For the sixth consecutive year, the University of Georgia (UGA) was ranked among the top 20 universities in the U.S. News & World Reports ranking of the best public universities in the US.

In the 2022 edition, UGA is placed in the 16th position, after the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The university is also ahead of Ohio State University and Purdue University, which share the 17th rank.

This year, UGA has also recorded record highs in measures of student success and demand for a UGA education.

Jere W. Morehead, UGA President, said that the universitys consistent position in the top 20 is a mark of the dedication of its students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends towards achieving the highest standards of academic excellence.

Additionally, the University of Georgia is the one academic institution among the only two including the Georgia Institute of Technology to make it to the top 20 this year. Also notable is that UGA along with the University of Florida are the only two US public universities from the Southeastern Conference that have been ranked in the top 20.

UGA also received high scores in many categories included in the rankings. The Terry College of Business is ranked among the US top 25 undergraduate business programs. The colleges insurance/risk management program has once again obtained the top spot in the nation.

The university is also ranked among the top 25 best colleges for veterans.

Factors such as UGAs commitment to providing hands-on learning experiences, letting undergraduate students participate in experiential learning such as study abroad, research, internships or service learning and initiatives to further enhance their classroom instruction have led to the university being consistently ranked in the top.

The class of 2024 entered university in fall 2020 with an average high school GPA of above 4.0, an average SAT score of 1351 and an average ACT score of 31.

The student-to-faculty ratio at UGA has remained constant at 17 to 1, with almost half of the classes comprising fewer than 20 students.

According to the data from UGAs Career Outcome Surveys, 91% of students are employed or enrolled in higher education programs within six months of graduation.
