Visa Appointment Wait Time Expected to be 'Significantly' Longer, says US Embassy

Starting November 8, around 3 million fully-vaccinated visa holders from India will be able to travel to the US under the new international travel policy. However, significant visa appointment wait times are expected for some nonimmigrant visa categories at the US Embassy and Consulates in India. 

The US Embassy in India has said that wait times for visa appointments will be significantly longer for certain nonimmigrant visa categories as it is trying to recover from COVID-19-related interruptions. 

It said that facilitating legitimate travel between the US and India and growing bilateral ties is the top priority. However, it is expected that there will be significant visa appointment wait times for some nonimmigrant visa categories at the Embassy and Consulates. 

Starting November 8, around 3 million fully-vaccinated visa holders from India will be able to travel to the US under the new international travel policy.

The mission appreciated people’s patience during these times while it works to increase their capacity and work on maintaining the safety of applicants and their staff.

The US Embassy further confirmed that those foreign air travellers who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will be allowed to travel to the US from November 8. 

Such passengers will also have to provide proof of their vaccination status prior to boarding an aeroplane to travel o the US. However, there will be certain limited exceptions in terms of vaccination requirements.

It also said that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has determined that air passengers will have to be vaccinated with FDA-approved or authorised vaccines or those with an emergency use listing (EUL) from the World Health Organisation (WHO).
