West Virginia University Announces Distribution of 2021-22 Emergency Funds for Students

West Virginia University, in accordance with the latest guidance from the Department of Education in the US, will be distributing $27,271,733 as emergency funds to students. Students interested in receiving the funds must meet the criteria specified by the university below.

West Virginia University Announces Distribution of 2021-22 Emergency Funds for Students

Understanding the need to support students, West Virginia University, as per the latest guidance from the US Department of Education, will be distributing $27,271,733 as emergency grants to students eligible during the 2021-22 academic year.

For students, including international students, to be considered for the emergency grants, students must meet the specified guidelines and deadlines. As per the notification released by the university, the eligibility criteria is as follows:

  • Only degree-seeking students enrolled in programmes offered at either of the WVU campuses, attending classes at least half-time will be considered eligible.

  • Students must also have a 2021-22 Free Application for Federal Student Aid on file by 20th August 2021 for them to be considered for the emergency grant.

  • Students in Graduate or Professional courses meeting the criteria will be considered for the American Rescue Plan Act funds, which have been authorised by the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III.

  • International students who are eligible will be contacted by the Office of Global Affairs and will be given the instructions to apply accordingly.

The West Virginia University notification further highlighted that those students whose financial circumstances have changed drastically since 2019 are advised to submit a Family Contribution Appeal, which should be completed and submitted by 20th August, in order to be considered in priority.

Here are the different amounts available to candidates eligible under different categories.

  • Qualified candidates of the Federal Pell Grant along with an EFC of Zero are considered to receive a $1,500 fall emergency grant.

  • Qualified candidates of the Federal Pell Grant with an EFC of more than Zero are considered to receive a $1,000 fall emergency grant.

  • Non-Pell qualified candidates with an EFC of Zero to $10,000 are considered to receive a $750 fall emergency grant.

  • Non-Pell qualified candidates with an EFC of $10,001 to $20,000 are considered to receive a $500 fall emergency grant.

  • Non-Pell candidates with an EFC of more than $20,000 will not be considered for the fall emergency grant, for the time being.

However, it should that the students who are yet to submit the 2021-22 FAFSA are advised to do so by August 20th, this year.
