The largest country of Northern Europe ‘Sweden’ is a Nordic country bordered by Finland to the East and Norway to the west and north. The country is located on the Scandinavian Peninsula in northern Europe. It is connected to Denmark by a bridge-tunnel. Officially known as the Kingdom of Sweden, it is the fifth-largest country in Europe by area. The capital city of Sweden is Stockholm. 

Sweden is famously known in Europe for equality in the education system. The country spends 27% of tax money on education and healthcare. International students in Sweden are an essential asset for the economy of the country and they also emerge as skilled professionals to be part of Sweden’s leading companies after graduation. In 2019, international students’ contribution to Sweden's economy was around SEK 1.1M. 

The population of international students in Sweden is around 27,300, according to 2020 data which is 13% higher than the previous year. Students in Sweden come from across 117 countries and most of them represent India, Finland and China. Sweden has seen an uprise in the number of Indian students applying at the university. In 2020, 6811 Indian students applied for admission in various Colleges in Sweden. In 2019, this number was 3526. 

Over the centuries, Sweden has seen immigrants from different parts of the world making it a country of homogenous religion, culture and community. About 200 languages are spoken by people in Sweden. With the rise in urban population in Sweden, the country has followed industrialization. There has been massive development of the railway network and usage of natural resources to enhance the lives of people living in Sweden. The average living space in Sweden is relatively large and the majority of the urban population live in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmo. 

Sweden is known for its social welfare system, high-quality lifestyle of people and standardised education system. Some of the top universities in Sweden for higher education include KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Lund University, Uppsala University, Stockholm University, and University of Gothenburg. These universities rank in the top 500 universities of the World. Students have an option to choose from a list of 1000 English taught programmes offered in various universities.
