History, Affiliations & Rankings
Abu Dhabi University is UAEs largest private university established in 2003 after the development of the Charter of Abu Dhabi University in 2000 byHis Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The world-class institution is accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education and Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). In addition, its College of Business is accredited by both AACSB and EQUIS, a double accreditation which is held by only 1% of business schools in the world. The QS World University Rankings 2021 ranked ADU among the top 750 universities worldwide and the worlds top 150 universities under 50 years old. Further, the university has ranked third in the international faculty category and 11th for student body diversity.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
ADU, a multi-campus university, has its flagship campus in Abu Dhabi with additional campuses in Al Ain, Dubai and Al Dhafra. Opened in 2006, the Abu Dhabi campus is a purpose-built, 3,68,000 sqm campus comprising a world-class learning environment, state-of-the-art educational technology, laboratories, food outlets & coffee shops, male & female dormitories, sporting facilities, and more. Launched in 2017, ADUs brand new Dubai campus is a 8,000 sqm facility located in the Dubai Knowledge Park - the only free zone for learning excellence in the world. With five colleges dedicated to Business, Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Law, and Health Sciences, the university offers over 50 internationally accredited undergraduate and postgraduate programs across a wide range of disciplines.
Accomplishments & Alumni
The ADU community consists of more than 19,925 graduates (as of 2020-21) who have made their mark not only in UAE but all around the world, across diverse areas of study. With an undergraduate retention rate of 85% and a 6-year graduation rate of 79%, ADU prides itself on its long history of academic excellence. ADU alumni, who automatically become members of ADU Alumni Association upon graduation, also get the opportunity to engage in the ADU Alumni Volunteer program that help them gain additional work experience. ADUs sports teams are also widely popular for their achievements such as its cricket team having claimed second place, female football team having won in the Abu Dhabi Inter-University Sports League (ADISL) Championship in 2018 and 2019.
Student Diversity & Visiting Companies
In the 2020-21 academic year, international students at ADU represented 43% of the total enrolments. The university boasts welcoming around 7,800 students from more than 80 countries every year. According to the Global Employability Ranking and Survey 2020 (GEURS), ADU has been ranked best for employability in the UAE and third in the Arab world. The university has a dedicated Employability and Alumni Relations Office (EARO) to guide students and graduates through their employment and help them network with major recruiters and industry professionals in their respective fields. In 2019-20, the university conducted around 60 career development sessions for more than 1,000 students and alumni.
COVID-19 Response
As COVID-19 continues to spread across the world, the Abu Dhabi University (ADU) has ensured that all preventative measures in accordance with the government are put in place. The university has been monitoring the situation carefully and taking the required measures to curb the spread and not compromise with education standards. Here are the latest updates announced by ADU, as of April 2021:
International students arriving from green countries need to take a PCR test on arrival and on the 6th day, with no need to quarantine. However, those coming from other zone countries must take a PCR test on arrival and on the 8th day, along with a quarantine period of 10 days.
In order to enter ADU campus, students must produce a valid PCR test result on Al Hosn Application that is no less than 14 days old.
While studying from home, students can keep track of latest ADU events on their Instagram channel @abudhabiuni and @adustudentaffairs or ADU Groups for career-development workshops and events.
Student accommodation at the university is available only at 50% capacity.
ADUs Students Affairs Development staff will assist students in getting a new student visa under the universitys sponsorship. They are available to guide students through the renewal process of their current visa while students are at home.
University Scholarship
Value: 15%-45% depending on the selected major and college
Eligibility Criteria:
One must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the scholarship:
Must be new high school or Grade 12 graduates with remarkable academic background.
Must join ADU within two years of secondary school graduation.
Must meet the English language proficiency requirements, as specified by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
In order to maintain the scholarship, applicants must obtain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.60 in each semester.
Note: This scholarship is applicable for the duration of a full-time undergraduate program at ADU.
International Student Waiver
Value: 15% waiver
Eligibility Criteria:
Only those who meet the following criteria can apply for the scholarship:
Must NOT qualify for the merit-based University Scholarship.
In order to maintain the scholarship, a candidate must obtain a CGPA of at least 3.60 in each semester.
Academic Scholarship (for continuing students at ADU)
Value:
20% academic scholarship
One-year free accommodation*
Eligibility Criteria:
Only those who meet the following eligiility requirements can apply for the scholarship:
Must be a full-time continuing student at ADU.
Must obtain a minimum CGPA of 3.60 or above in two semesters in a row.
*Note: Those enrolled in 2021-22 are offered one-year free accommodation in ADU’s double sharing campus dormitories.
Merit Scholarship
Value: 25% merit scholarship
Eligibility Criteria:
Only those who meet the following criteria can apply for the scholarship:
Must hold a Bachelor’s degree.
Must have obtained 3.5 or above CGPA on a scale of 4.0 or First Division/First Class.
In order to maintain the scholarship, candidates must obtain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 3.60 in each semester.
International Student Waiver
Value: 15% waiver
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the scholarship, one must fulfil the following criteria:
Must NOT qualify for the merit-based scholarship.
In order to maintain the international student waiver, an applicant must make sure that they obtain a minimum CGPA of 3.60 in each semester.
