Aston University is a top-class public research University of England. It is situated in the centre of Birmingham city in England. In 2017, the Times Higher Education ranked it as the second-best teaching quality University of England. The University was established as Birmingham Municipal Technical School in 1895 and was granted University status in 1966. Other highlights of Aston University include being in the top 100 Best 'Golden Age' Universities in the World (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2017), top 200 in the world (2018 QS Graduate Employability Rankings) and top 200 in Europe (Times Higher Education European University Rankings 2018).
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
Aston University campus is located in the centre of Birmingham, ‘Britain’s Second City’. Birmingham is a lively and multicultural city, with a population of 1.2 million people. It currently has the largest number of theatres outside London and has a vibrant art, music and literary scene. The University campus expands over an area of 60 acres. The campus has sports centres, swimming pools, gyms, cafes, health centres, banks and other basic amenities to meet the daily needs of the students.

From abiding by the UK government’s guidance on managing the risk of the Novel Coronavirus to formulating a new plan to welcome new and current international students to the country, Aston University has been working towards delivering world-class education whilst prioritising their health and safety. Here are the latest Covid-19 updates put forward for international students:
All new students will start their programmes as planned, through blended learning, which is a combination of both in-person and online teaching.
The university will remain open although England is under its second lockdown from November 5 to December 2.
Lectures will be delivered online and a limited number of on-campus small group learning sessions will be conducted as part of the course.
The university encourages international students to join their peers on campus in the UK to get a better learning experience. However, students who do not/ cannot arrive in the UK can study online in January 2021.
Tuition fees will not be reduced for students who decide to study remotely from their home country.
Students can join the university online until their visa is granted.
Aston University is committed to providing support to talented international students with a wide range of scholarship opportunities. Given below are scholarships for both undergraduate and postgraduate students at Aston:
This scholarship is open to international students who are residents of any country outside of the EU. Open to those applying to any undergraduate and postgraduate taught programme (except MBA), the scholarship is an award worth £3,000 that can be used against the tuition fees. The applicants are also required to become a Global Ambassador who will help represent the university flexibly.
One can apply to this scholarship by logging into their My Aston Portal (MAP) account.
The Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship at Aston is for students who are from outside of the EU and have managed to maintain academic excellence and commitment to their academic area. They should be an undergraduate or postgraduate applicant (except MBChB in Medicine and the MBA), who will be required to submit an application form through their My Aston Portal (MAP) account.
Selected students will be awarded £8,000 to help with tuition fees.
All international students (from outside of the EU) applying for undergraduate or postgraduate taught programmes (except UG courses in Medicine and the MBA) are considered eligible for this scholarship.
Students do not need to submit any written application statement to apply for this scholarship as they will automatically be considered for it when they apply to the university.
Selected students will be awarded £5,000.
Offered to only one applicant, the Trendhim scholarship is an external scholarship worth €2,000 that is to be used to cover expenses related to university fees, school material, online courses, travel expenses, projects, and more. It will be open only to those who are applying to courses in the following fields:
Marketing and Management, Digital Marketing or Sales
Business, Accounting or Finance
Leadership and Organisation
IT and Web Development
Fashion and Design
This is a 25% scholarship for students who demonstrate potential in becoming entrepreneurs in the field of product design. The same can be used to cover the tuition fees for four years.
Only students who are applying for the university’s new undergraduate course- MSci Design, Enterprise and Innovation will be considered eligible for this scholarship.
In order to apply for the scholarship, one should submit a form along with a short video (2-3 minutes) presenting a new design idea on the given topic.
The Women in Engineering Scholarship offered by Aston is only for female applicants who are enrolling in Engineering and Applied Sciences courses. It grants a tuition fee discount of £6,000.
Offered by the Aston Business School, the Aston Enterprise Scholarships can be either full or two partial scholarships. It is open to students who are applying for a one-year Master’s degree programme beginning in September 2021.
The winner of this scholarship will be awarded a 100% reduction in tuition fees. Two runners-up will be awarded a partial scholarship (40% reduction in tuition fees).
£4,000 will be awarded to international students who are applying to courses in the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH).
Apart from these scholarships, the university also allows international students to apply for external scholarships.
