Established in 1823, Birkbeck, University of London is a public institution considered as one of the top research-intensive universities in the world. What was founded as the London Mechanics’ Institute around 200 years ago is not part of the University of London. Birbeck awards qualifications that are respected and recognised internationally. Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Located in the heart of London in Bloomsbury, Birkbeck is known for its cutting-edge research and two campuses in central and east London. The college offers full-time as well as part-time courses for its students’ convenience. A wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes at Birkbeck is offered within five schools, namely, School of Science, School of Business, School of Arts, School of Economics & Informatics, School of Social Sciences, History & Philosophy and School of Law. It is noteworthy that 95% of Birkbeck’s graduates find employment or take up higher education within six months of graduation. Covid-19 Response

Birkbeck hosts students from more than 100 countries every year, with over 1,500 students have enrolled for the 2020-21 academic year alone. With international students playing a major role in contributing to a culturally diverse community, the university has taken the following measures:

  • Birkbeck has been continuing to monitor government guidance for the restart of campus teaching and events. As the UK government has permitted the on-campus teachings for all courses, the decision related to September 2021 intake shall be announced soon by the Birkbeck University of London.

  • The College shall be following the government’s guidance on social distancing for campus teaching and events.

  • Presently, Birkbeck University of London is offering online teachings for the Summer term (between April and July 2021).

  • The University has provided a total of 140 study places available for students. The university is also offering financial assistance to students enrolled in programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate and MPhil/PhD levels.

  • Students who will be travelling from other countries will have to follow travel and entry guidelines as defined by the UK government for specific countries.

Scholarships for International Students at Birkbeck, University of London

Birkbeck, University of London offers different scholarships for its international undergraduate as well as postgraduate aspirants. Candidates can go through the scholarships mentioned below and apply according to the eligibility criteria. For more information on a particular scholarship, candidates can contact the respective department or official.

Birkbeck January Start International Scholarships

Scholarship Amount: 3,000 towards tuition fee only

Who Can Apply?

  • Those who are paying international overseas tuition fees.

  • Must hold an unconditional offer on a full-time postgraduate taught course at Birkbeck, starting in January 2021

  • Must submit payment of the non-refundable deposit of 200 within two working days of being selected for the scholarship.

  • Must be self-funded

  • Must be domiciled outside the UK

How to Apply?

Once, candidates have received an offer from Birkbeck, the University of London, they must submit their application form for the scholarship online.

Deadline:

  • First round: December 6, 2020

  • Second round: December 15, 2020

  • Deadline to enrol for the January intake: January 18, 2021

Commonwealth Scholarships

Scholarship Amount: Several

Schemes under Commonwealth Scholarships: 

  • Commonwealth Split-site (PhD) Scholarships (for low- and middle-income country applicants)

  • Commonwealth PhD Scholarships (for least developed and fragile country applicants) 

  • Commonwealth Master's Scholarships (for applicants nominated by CSC nominating agencies)

How to Apply?

Once, candidates have received an offer from Birkbeck, the University of London, they must submit their application form for the scholarship online. 

Chevening Scholarships

Scholarship Amount: Full cost, covering both living costs and tuition fees

Who Can Apply?

  • Should be from any Chevening-eligible country

  • Should receive an offer to study a full-time Master’s degree programmes offered at Birkbeck. 

Number of Awards: Five per year

How to Apply?

  • Visit the Chevening website and go to the application page.

  • Select your country.

  • Choose ‘scholarship’ as level.

  • Select ‘apply for scholarship'

Deadline: August 2021 for 2022-23 academic year

Birkbeck Global Future Scholarships

Scholarship Amount: Discount towards tuition fee for the first year of study

Who Can Apply?

  • Should be an original resident of France/Italy/Greece/Spain/Republic of Cyprus/Romania/Poland/Hungary/Bulgaria/Brazil

  • Should be self-funded

  • Should be holding a full-time postgraduate offer of study at Birkbeck for October 2021 entry.

  • Should be classified as an International tuition fee payer.
