The University of Brighton was established in 1859 as a School of Art. In the 1970s, it became Brighton Polytechnic and finally gained university status in 1992. What began with 110 pupils now houses over 20,000 students. Over the years of its existence, the University of Brighton has been able to gain a reputation for itself as a globally competitive university, attracting students from worlds over. This can be proven through the Silver Award for Teaching that was conferred to the university by the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), a UK government initiative. The courses offered by the University of Brighton have been accredited and recognised by various professional and statutory bodies like ACCA, the Institutions for Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Structural Engineers, and many more.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The University of Brighton offers a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses across five campuses. Its campuses are not only located in Brighton, but also in Hastings and Eastbourne. Three of its campuses are: Grand Parade, Falmer and Moulsecoomb are located in Brighton. The Grand Parade campus houses Humanities and Arts students; Flamer campus plays host to trainee teachers, nurses, linguists and social scientists and Moulsecoomb houses a number of departments including Life Sciences, Geography and Mathematics. Moulsecoomb has the largest student population.

Accomplishments & Alumni

The academic success of the University of Brighton can be examined by the staggering list of its alumni. Some of the universitys well-renowned alumni are comic actor Chris Barrie, artist Jesse Waugh, childrens author Sue Hendra and DJ Norman Cook (also known as Fatboy Slim). Among the other accomplishments of the University of Brighton, 91.6% of the graduates as per the Graduate Outcomes Survey conducted by HESA, were able to find employment or study for a year or so. The University of Brighton researchers have also been awarded and recognised for their work and research projects, such as being awarded the Future Leaders Fellowship and many more.

Out of the nearly 18,000 students, close to 2,000 students travel from outside of the UK to pursue higher education opportunities in the University of Brighton. The university has also been recognised for its effort in bringing equality and inclusivity among students of all backgrounds, races, ethnicities, genders, sexuality and ensures that all students, staff and faculty receive equal opportunities throughout their stay at the university.

COVID-19 Response

The University of Brighton UK has established certain regulations and standards in compliance with the NHS, to ensure that the safety and health of all students and staff are maintained. Blended models of learning while adhering to the social distancing norms for COVID-19, the University of Brighton aims to provide a unique but safe student experience in 2021.

  • Opportunities for face-to-face interaction with the faculty and peers will be made available, keeping the social distancing regulations in mind.

  • The latest updates on in-person classes and schedule will be communicated to students soon in the coming weeks after the recent confirmation from the UK Government that allows in-person teaching to resume for all courses in higher educational institutes from May 17th, 2021.

  • Laboratories, studios, workshops and other specialist facilities will be available for students to use and receive hands-on training for their respective courses. Necessary precautionary measures will be observed during such classes and interactions.

  • Cleaning and sanitising protocols will be implemented along with a controlled movement of traffic within the campus. Students will also be asked to wear face masks or coverings, in adherence to the social protocols.

International Scholarships

Value of Scholarship: £2,500 for year one only

Entry: For full-time international students applying for postgraduate taught programmes starting in the current academic year.

Eligibility:

  • All international fee-status students who have received an offer to a minimum one-year postgraduate degree are eligible for the scholarship

  • You must be starting your course of study from the current academic year.

  • Students enrolled in postgraduate diplomas, pre-master’s courses or equivalent are ineligible for the courses.

  • The scholarship is also not available for students who are fully-sponsored.

  • The scholarship is also not applicable to existing or currently-enrolled students, unless they are starting a new PG course from the current academic year.

Vice-Chancellor’s Masters Alumni Scholarships

Value: £3,000

Entry: For University of Brighton students who wish to continue their postgraduate studies after UG with a minimum academic year deferral of 1 year.  Available to full-time and part-time students.

Eligibility:

  • All students who have completed their UG or are completing their UG from the University of Brighton and wish to continue their PG studies from the same univerity are eligibility.

  • Eligible candidates must start onto the Masters courses from 2020-21, with a maximum academic year deferral of 1 year.

  • Students from EU/UK and International Students are eligible to apply for the scholarship, if they meet the necessary requirement.
