A series of events that commenced with the establishment of the Leeds School of Medicine in 1831 and the Yorkshire College of Science in 1874 led to the foundation of an institution that would, after 1904, be called the University of Leeds. The university was one of the first of its generation to be open to people from all walks of faith and had a strong focus on the advancement of science and scientific methods that were in high demand during the era of its establishment. The university’s strong heritage helped it bring a strong future and become one of the best higher educational institutions in the UK. It has been ranked 93rd in the 2020 QS World University Rankings, was named the top university in the UK by the Times, has earned the Queen’s Anniversary prize twice — the highest accolade provided to educational institutions in the UK.

Majority of campus-based services continue to remain closed and major services are being offered online. However, campus will be reopened in September.
Classes and teaching activities for newly admitted and returning undergraduate students will go ahead using digital means. Seminars, small-group settings, dissertation, tutorials and practicals, etc. will be delivered on campus with all government guidelines in place.
All applications will be processed as usual and the university is accepting a wider range of English language tests as many English language test centres may be currently closed.
Students have the option to defer their place to 2021 provided they have not deferred before.
International students may need to self-isolate before starting their studies and from the beginning of the academic year, students will be given access to free and fast COVID-19 testing on campus.
Orientation and induction activities will be held online.
Free professional wellbeing and mental health support will also be available in case students need the same.
There are a wide range of scholarships available for international students enrolled at the University of Leeds. Separate scholarships are available for undergraduate and master’s degree students.
Every individual school at the University of Leeds has separate scholarships available for international students. Whether one is pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate study, he/she can refer to the information provided by their school or department of study or contact the respective offices for more information on scholarships available for international students.
External scholarships are also available for international students accepted into full-time degree programmes at the University of Leeds. These are sponsored by third-party sources such as the British and Scottish governments and may require the student to agree for some extra work or promotional activity.
