University of Sunderland was founded in 1901 as Sunderland Technical College located in the Sunderland City of England. In 1689 its name was changed to Sunderland Polytechnic and finally in 1992 it gained the university status and was named as the University of Sunderland. Today, the University of Sunderland is a globally recognised public research university and offers life-changing opportunities to students from across the world to study and perform research work at the institute.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The main campus of the University of Sunderland is in Sunderland, North East of England which is known as the ‘City Campus’ and it has partner colleges in London and Hong Kong. The city campus is centre for university administration, service support and is located at the centre of the modern city. The campus has multiple lecture halls, library and sports facilities at CitySpace. It is also the centre for Art and Design course and Northern Centre of Photography. The Pharmacy School, School of Nursing, Living Lab, Sciences provision and the newly established School of Medicine are all located in the city campus of the University of Sunderland. A wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses are taught at the University of Sunderland in various areas of studies like engineering, medicine, art, design, law, journalism. The University of Sunderland was ranked at 16th position (out of 131 universities) in the ‘University of the Year’ category of the Student Choice Awards 2019. It is also recently named as the University of the Year for Social Inclusion byThe Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021 for its commitment towards Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. COVID-19 Response 2021
Health and safety have been the foremost priority of the University of Sunderland since the first day of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The university is taking all precautionary measures as per the guidelines defined by the UK Government and Public Health England. Also, it is following the travel guidelines from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).
As per the government guidelines, all the courses and support services can be offered on campus from May 17th, 2021. Thus all latest updates and decisions related to the upcoming academic session at the University of Sunderland shall be communicated to students through email.
International students who cannot travel to the UK due to travel restrictions can take all classes and student services online and continue with the classes remotely. As long as the student is registered and engaged in studies with the university they will be considered for a student visa
Various services shall resume soon and students will be able to use the specialist resources, equipment and facilities like library, sports area etc
University of Sunderland helps international students in all possible ways to help them meet financial needs and manage their living expenses. Scholarships are offered to students who are enrolled in full-time undergraduate or postgraduate studies at the university that covers the tuition fees.
The scholarship value amounts to £1500 for an undergraduate course and £1000 for a postgraduate course.
Apart from this, the University of Sunderland also manages accommodation cost for students which is around £3100 to £3900 for over 540- 50 weeks stay. Students can also use the monthly travel ticket to manage the daily travel expenses.
