Adams State University is a public university located in the San Luis Valley, in Alamosa, Colorado. founded in 1921, to provide higher education opportunities for teachers from remote and rural areas of Colorado and see them work in those same areas.  It is a small institution with an enrollment of 1,514 undergraduate students. Adams State University is regionally accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Adams State University's ranking in the 2020 edition of Best Colleges is Regional Universities West, #87-#113.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The Adams State acceptance rate is 99%. A medium-sized, 4-year, public liberal arts college.  It offers associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. Students can earn a bachelor's degree in any of 16 majors, with 28 minors and emphasis. Popular majors include Liberal Arts and Humanities, Business, and Kinesiology and Exercise Science. The school's sports called the Grizzlies participate in the NCAA's Division II, and in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. 
Adams State’s Co-Curricular Recreation and Engagement Office (CoRE) takes students beyond the classroom by giving students the skills to create a fulfilling future. Graduate assistantships are available on-campus for teaching or research positions. Over 100 scholarships are also awarded, such as the McDaniel Scholarship, Woodard Memorial Scholarship, Porter Scholars Program, and Graduate Good Neighbor Scholarship, over $3.8 million in institutional aid is granted annually. 

Accomplishments & Alumni

ASU is the first university in Colorado to be federally designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). Currently, ASU is ranked among the top 120 regional colleges in the West by the U.S. News and World Report. Adams State University was included in the Princeton Review's list for "Best in the West." Washington Monthly crowned ASU the 184th "Best Bang for the Buck" in the Western United States. Victory Media has also recognized Adams State for being among the top 15 percent of "Military Friendly" schools. Some of the notable alumni are David E. Clemmer, Carlos Lucero, William A. Porter etc

Adam State University is ranked at #369 in male to female diversity in the US. The university has 48.6% women as opposed to 51.4% men. The student population includes international students from 11 countries. The career services include Career Advising, Develop Job and Career Skills, Search for Internships and Jobs and Plan for Graduate and Professional School. Employers include Follett Higher Education, Baker & Taylor.
