History, Affiliations, and Rankings

Established in 1875, Alabama A&M University (AAMU) is situated in a small town within the city limits of Huntsville, Normal, Alabama. This university was earlier known as The Huntsville Normal School. In 1969, the school was renamed under its current name. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award the various degrees. 
The institution is ranked at > 800th in the US Rankings 2019 by Times Higher Education. US News and World Report 2020 Edition ranks AAMU at #96-#122 in Regional Universities South,

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The 1,143 acres campus has various buildings for academic and recreational purposes like The J.F. Drake Memorial Learning Resources Center, State Black Archives Research Center and Museum, Louis Crews Stadium. Elmore Gymnasium, and Engineering, and Technology building.

Along with various engineering streams, the popular majors at AAMU are Biology, Psychology, Information Science, Criminal Justice, and Law Enforcement Administration and Business.

Accomplishments & Alumni

AAMU has partnered with major industries like Kelloggs, Land O’ Lakes, Publix,  Cargill, and Virginia Dare. Prominent graduates from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University include celebrities, politicians, business people, athletes, and more. The alumni include Ruben Studdard (actor, singer), Robert Mathis (American Football Player), and many more.

With almost 5000 undergraduate students, AAMU has a student-faculty ratio of 18:1. The gender ratio is positive with 56% women and 44% men.
