History, Affiliations & Rankings

Founded as a private institution in 1852, Antioch University Los Angeles Campus(AULA), was set up in the greater Los Angeles area in 1972 and has been honored to serve the diverse communities & upholds the legacy of Horace Mann’s original vision. Due to its expansion of programs, graduate degrees, and campuses, Antioch’s name was changed in 1978 from Antioch College to Antioch University. It has been continuously accredited by the Higher Learning Commission(1926). The precursor to the National Council of Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL), was founded by Morris Keeton when he was Antioch’s Vice President of Academic Affairs. 

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Serving the diverse communities of the Greater Los Angeles area, AULA-Antioch's largest campus, offers many Undergraduate and Graduate Level Degrees. The students may choose from a variety of options. The school offers undergraduate degree completion programs in Liberal Studies, Applied Studies, Applied Arts and Media, Urban Communities and Justice, Applied Technology, and Business Leadership. Graduate programs are offered in Nonprofit Management, Education and Teacher Credentialing, Psychology, Creative Writing, and Urban Sustainability. Partnerships with community organizations provide students with unique experiential learning opportunities.

Accomplishments & Alumni 

Antioch University has been honoured with the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honour Roll Award (2009, 2010-Distinction, 2011). In 2011, the University was named one of the top 20 colleges most committed to community service by USA Today. AULA’s low-residency MFA program was named one of the top five in the nation by The Atlantic magazine in 2007. AULA is a proud member of the California Association of Nonprofits. The Horace Mann Upstanders Award, sponsored by the Education Department, honors work that promotes social action in children’s literature. The Bridge Programme offers a year of humanities education for college credit at no cost to students. AULA’s graduate-level LGBT Psychology Specialization founded Colors LGBTQ Youth Counseling Center.
Notable alumni include  American politician and activist Cynthia Ann McKinney, American environmentalist and economist, Winona LaDuke, actress Marcia Anne Cross to name a few.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

At Antioch University Los Angeles, there are more than 1,425 students, of which 69% are female. As many as 39.1% of undergraduate students are eligible for Pell Grants, and 14.6% are first-generation college students. Approximately 55% of students receive some sort of financial aid, ranging from grants and loans to institutional and private scholarships. A modest 0.3 % of the student body is represented by international students. As many as 13% of our students are first-generation college students. The average class size is eight students. Antioch University Los Angeles has an ever-growing community of Alumni, numbering 7000+ and counting. Top organizations where the alumni work includes Southern California Counseling Center, Los Angeles Unified School District, Private Practice in Psychotherapy and Counseling, Kaiser Permanente, MFT in private practice, The Maple Counseling Center, and Airport Marina Counseling Service.
