A part of the 23 campuses California State University system, California State University San Marcos (also known as Cal State San Marcos or CSUSM) is the 20th campus to be established. CSUSM was formally established in the year 1989. It is affiliated to the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

The institution is ranked #58 in Regional Universities West (tie) by US News 2020. Times Higher Education ranks it at 401-500th in US Rankings 2020.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

CSUSM's vast 304-acre campus is located on a hillside overlooking San Marcos-CA. With 150+ teaching and research labs, the 5-storied 2 lakh sq.ft Kellogg Library, an art gallery, performance halls, theaters, 20+ art studios and much more on the anvil, CSUSM's campus houses its 4 colleges. College of Business Administration, the College of Science and Mathematics, College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences and the College of Education, Health and Human Services offer a number of academic courses. Having conferred over 24000 degrees in its history, CSUSM offers bachelor’s, masters, teaching credentials and a Doctor of Education program. The most sought after programs at CSUSM are Business Administration, Psychology, Criminology, and Biological Sciences.

Accomplishments & Alumni

CSUSM  has been mentioned as one of the best 'Top Performers' in RecycleMania (nationwide college and university recycling competition) and was ranked no.1 six years in a row (2005-11). As of 2017, CSUSM is also officially a part of the NCAA-II competitions. CSUSM has also received the accolade of 'Great College to Work For' (The Chronicle of Higher Education-2014) being one of only 92 institutions nationally. Some well-known Alumni are Olympic Gold winner Shaun White, Mark Hoppus & Professional fighter-MMA & Muay Thai Tiffany van Soest.

With a whopping 15% of the international students being Indians, the student body comprises 9% of Asian origin and 60% of the total student population are women female. With a record 78% of students getting job placements within 6 months of graduating, CSUSM has a robust and powerful Careers Department.
