History, Affiliations & Rankings

The Delaware College for Colored Students, now known as Delaware State University(DSU), was established by the Delaware General Assembly in 1891. The university is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), as well as by six specialized academic accrediting agencies like AACSB, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, etc. The university is ranked #13 in Historically Black Colleges and Universities by U.S. News & World Report (2020). In 2018, the College of Business at DSU was among the Princeton Review’s Best Business Schools.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses    

The main campus is located in the city of Dover. The 356-acre stretched campus with over 50 buildings and four outdoor athletic fields, also has two farm properties in the Kenton and Smyrna areas, situated in Wilmington and Georgetown. Its Aviation Program maintains its fleet of planes and bases of operation at the Delaware Air Park in Cheswold. DSU currently offers 42 undergraduate degree options, 18 master’s degree programs, and five doctoral degree programs in areas such as Kinesiology, Management, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sport Management and many more.

Accomplishments & Alumni      

The institution has developed the research infrastructure such to attract federal grants for projects in the Research Centers and in the sciences and mathematics. It manoeuvres the only full-service, a university-based flight school in the mid-Atlantic area. The Aviation program has the approval of the State of Delaware Education Department for Veterans Flight Training. The university has many notable alumni like Darnerien McCants, National Football League wide receiver, Ralph Wesley, public address announcer for the Washington Wizards and many more.

Student Diversity

The university’s population includes 63% African-American enrollment and an increasing number of Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian and other international students. The university has over thirty formal global partnerships with institutions in countries including China, Cuba, Egypt, France, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Nigeria, Poland and the UK which provide research and conference collaborations and student exchanges.
