Founded in 1969, the Governors State University (GSU) is a public university in University Park, Illinois. The university was originally founded as an upper divisional institution to serve community college graduates pursuing baccalaureate degrees. It is the only regional, comprehensive public university in the south suburban area of Chicago. GSU is accredited to the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and authorised by the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE). The university's ranking in the 2022 edition of Best Colleges in Regional Universities Midwest Rankings by the U.S. News & World Report is 115-153. The university has also been ranked for first-gen student commitment

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses 

Located 40 miles south of Chicago, the GSU campus extends across an area of 750 acres. The university has four colleges to offer academic programmes namely: College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Education and College of Health and Human Services. The School of Extended Learning offers professional courses to help students meet their personal and career goals. GSU also offers fully online degrees at the Certificate, Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral level. Each major programme at GSU is offered under various specializations. These classes are delivered by trained faculty members who have relevant knowledge and experience in related fields. Classroom programmes at GSU are conducted in small-sized batches to give maximum attention to each student.

Jeremy Joyce, an alumnus of College of Business- GSU and founder of the popular Black People Eats who was named among year's Fortune 40 under 40 are among GSU's notable alumni.

Every year, Governors State University enrols more than 6,000 students in high-value undergraduate and postgraduate educational programs. The university features highly diverse students, faculty and staff and 3% of its students are from Asian countries. GSU trains students to meet the expectations of industries and companies through its valuable academic programmes and several other services. It also has a separate Career Services Office to help graduates and students with the job search, internship opportunities and employment. It has partnered with Handshake- a modern career development platform where employers can post jobs, go through students profiles and view resumes. It is a convenient approach and several students and employers have benefited from this service.
