Johns Hopkins University was established in 1849 with the intent of carrying research and teaching hand in hand. The vision that knowledge can be upgraded through continuous research and innovation was the founding mantra of this university and has led to making the university one of the top 5 universities in the world for science programmes and the top 10 for almost all the programmes it offers. It was in fact, America's first research university and has been a pioneer in pushing facts across the world backed by continuous research. John Hopkins University's ranking in the 2020 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, #10.
 
Infrastructure, Campuses & Courses
Johns Hopkins is spread over 4 campuses i.e. Baltimore, Washington DC, Montgomery County, and Maryland and has facilities in China and Italy as well. The courses are imparted through 9 academic divisions. Offering a number of programmes at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels, students have the opportunity to opt from 260+ majors in Science, Engineering, Business, Arts, Music, Philosophy, Education and Health professions. Apart from full-time degrees, John Hopkins University also offers a variety of certificate and diploma courses in different disciplines.

The university has produced hundreds of CEOs, Founders, Visionaries, Biologists, Ecologists, Scientists, novelists, Conservationists, Movie Directors/producers and not to forget dozens of Oscar, Grammy, Emmy, and Pulitzer award winners. As a matter of fact, one of the past US Presidents, Mr Woodrow Wilson was an alumnus of this university. About 29 people working with Johns Hopkins in various capacities including faculty members are the prestigious Nobel Prize winners. Johns Hopkins is a pioneer in promoting and nurturing ideas. COVID-19 Response 
 
Understanding restrictions that the pandemic has brought forth, John Hopkins University has released an appropriate COVID-19 Response, in accordance with the federal regulations. From hybrid models of learning to strict implementation of social distancing measures, John Hopkins University is dedicated in maintaining the health and safety of students, staff and faculty.

  • Johns Hopkins University reopened on-campus facilities on June 15. It was the first Phase of reopening in which only laboratory research work was resumed.

  • The Fall semester for undergraduate degree programmes will begin on time. However, all instructions, labs and co-curricular activities will be offered online. On-campus activities will be conducted with the utmost safety and precautions. 

  • Use of face covers, physical distancing and proper sanitisation are some of the basic guidelines that need to be followed.

  • Smoking and Vaping is restricted on campus.

  • COVID-19 testing will be conducted for a limited number of residential students, upon their arrival on the campus. It will be done on an ongoing basis throughout the semester.

Need-Based Scholarship

  • Hopkins university offers need-based scholarship to international students enrolled in an undergraduate degree programme. 
  • The university offers need-based scholarships to around 10% of the total students enrolled at the university as a freshman.

Amount: The average amount of need-based scholarship offered to students is $25,000. The actual amount received by an individual depends on the need of the student. 
 
Application Process: International students who apply for the need-based scholarship must submit the International Student Certification of Finances Form. The form must contain bank verification details along with the application. 
 

Merit-Based Scholarships

The Hodson Trust Scholarship

  • This scholarship is awarded to less than 20 incoming freshmen each year on the basis of academic and personal achievements and leadership.
  • The Hodson Trust Scholarship is automatically renewed each year if the awardee is able to maintain a 3.0 GPA. 
  • Candidates are not required to apply separately for the scholarship, a committee will choose the eligible candidates based on the information provided in their admission application form.
  • The scholarship amount will remain consistent throughout the eligible student’s undergraduate course.

Eligibility:

  • All freshmen applicants will be considered for the scholarship based on their academic and personal merits and achievements along with their leadership skills.

Charles R Westgate Scholarship in Engineering

  • The scholarship is offered as a gift from Kwok-Leung Li, a graduate of the Department of Electrical Engineering.
  • The Scholarship can be renewed yearly for a total of four years provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility:

  • Candidates should be enrolled in a programme offered by GWC Whiting School of Engineering.
  • Candidates should remain enrolled in GWC Whiting School of Engineering for their entire duration of their course.
  • Candidates are also required to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher throughout their course.

Institutional Scholarship

  • Hopkins university provides funds to international students who demonstrate both need-based and merit-based scholarship. 
  • Under this category, the award is renewable up to 8 semesters. 

Eligibility:

  • Students must be enrolled in a full-time course and have maintained a satisfactory academic record to receive the fund.

Apart from the above-mentioned courses, students can also apply for private funds. Such funds are offered by private agencies, NGO’s, organisations etc. Candidates can search for country-specific private funds and apply it within the allocated time.
