History, Affiliations & Rankings

Established back in 1886 as the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy by the Kings County Pharmaceutical Society, LIU Pharmacy (The Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences) is the oldest unit of LIU (Long Island University). In 1929, the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy affiliated with LIU, one of the largest independent universities in the United States of America. Located at LIU Brooklyn since 1976, the College was ranked the third-safest campus in the nation and the safest in New York City by the Daily Beast. It has been formally recognized & accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). US News and World Report 2020 Edition ranks the institution at #79 Pharmacy (tie), #74 in Physician Assistant (tie). Times Higher Education ranks it between 401-500th US Rankings 2020.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

LIU Brooklyn is located on the vibrant 11-acre campus in the heart of one of New York City. The Programs of Study Offered by LIU Pharmacy include Doctor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Pharmacy/Master of Business Administration, B.P.S. in Pharmaceutical StudiesPh.D. in Pharmaceutics, Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics, M.S. in Pharmaceutics with Specialization in Industrial Pharmacy, M.S. in Pharmaceutics with Specialization in Cosmetic Sciences, M.S. in Pharmacology and Toxicology and M.S. in Drug Regulatory Affairs. 

Accomplishments & Alumni

LIU Pharmacy was the first radioisotope laboratory in a New York State college of pharmacy, the first college of pharmacy in the United States to participate in the African Scholarship Program of American Universities, the first chair in the history and Science and Technology in a college of pharmacy in the United States, the First MS in Pharmacy Administration graduate program in New York State, the First university-based drug information center in the New York City metropolitan area and the First MS in Drug Information and Communication graduate program in the United States. Notable alumni include Linda E. Amper, Robert Arning,vice-chair of market development at KPMG Inc., Michael P. Devine, COO and President of Dime Community Bancshares Inc. and John Kanas, CEO and President of North Fork Bank Corporation Inc.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

LIU Pharmacy has completed more than 130 years of service to the state and the nation in the education of more than 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The university has a positive gender ratio with almost 70% women and 30% men. About 500 international students study at LIU Pharmacy. The international students constitute 6.9% of all total students. Prominent organizations where the alumni work includes the NYC Department of Education, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, LIU Brooklyn, Long Island University, NYC Health + Hospitals, CVS Health and Northwell Health.
