Oakland University was founded in 1957 by Alfred and Matilda Dodge Wilson with an aim to establish a satellite school in Oakland. Today, the university is recognised as the student-centred university research institute and it holds a global recognition.  The university is located in the heart of Oakland County and it is the centre attraction for higher education for both domestic and international students. It is a public institution that provides a distinct educational platform for students to engage in education and research. The university offers flexible classroom programmes, technology-driven learning and research opportunities. It has the best state-of-the-art facilities, student services, research labs and corporate partners. Oakland University is the only university among 186 business schools to earn AACSB international accreditation for accounting and business programmes. It is recognised as the second-highest tier research university as per the 2018 Carnegie classification. 

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The university campus is situated north of Detroit at the centre of Oakland County and spreads across an area of 1433 acres. The campus houses 50 major buildings that includes seven residence halls, two complexes, athletic dome, a state of the art recreation centre, OU Art Gallery, Meadow Brook Theatre, Meadow Brook Hall and Amphitheatre. Presently, the university offers 146 bachelors degree programmes and 130 master’s, doctoral and certificate courses.

Oakland University has over 122,000 alumni who are actively engaged in various professions and research work across the world. The Oakland University Office of Alumni Engagement conducts on-campus as well as virtual events to keep the alumni engaged with alma mater. OU has been recognized as the second-highest tier of research universities in 2018 Carnegie Classification. It has a partnership with fortune 500 companies, hospitals, government agencies and educational institutions for the expansion of education and research work. COVID-19 Response 

Oakland University team is working closely to ensure that students have access to classes and services for the Fall term 2020, in a healthy and safe manner.  The university has thus decided to offer classes in various formats like in- person, online and hybrid classes.

In-person classes will be offered with limited classroom capacities to maintain social distancing. The classroom lectures will be recorded and it will be live-streamed for students who will be attending online classes. These students will also be able to attend pre-recorded lectures as per the requirements of the courses. 

Hybrid courses give the flexibility to students to attend in-person and online instruction. Some meetings will be held online while others will be held face to face in the campus. 

The university enhanced its capacity of virtual classes and also trained faculty for online teaching and curriculum. This will help students attend classes and complete the course on time via the virtual platform.
