Portland State University was founded in 1946 as the Vanport Extension Center in Vanport city with a strength of 220 students. Later on, in the year 1952, it was shifted to downtown Portland city in Oregon. Over the decades, the university has burgeoned to become the most diverse urban public research university of the state. It is one of the most diverse, innovative and affordable research universities in the US.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
PSU university campus expands over an area of 50 acres. The campus houses 50 PSU buildings and has 10 buildings for residential purpose. Courses at Portland State University are offered in 10 different Schools and Colleges. The university started offering the bachelor’s degree programme from 1956 and the first master’s degree programme at the university was offered in 1964. The innovative approach of teaching and creative problem-solving techniques makes it an apt institute for higher learning.

Portland State University has a total strength of 26,000 students who are enrolled in various undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. The student and faculty ratio of the university is 20: 1. 6% of the total strength of the university are international students. The university offers both full time and part-time courses. It offers more than 200-degree programmes at UG, PG and Doctoral level. 61% of total students of the university are enrolled in full-time courses and 39% of the students are enrolled in part-time courses.
COVID-19 Response
Portland State University has announced its plans to conduct flexible Fall term by offering a variety of courses. The courses will be a combination of face to face on-campus courses and online classes as most students face travel and visa restrictions in the current situation.
The number of face to face format classes will be limited and students will have the flexibility to choose remote course formats. They will have the option to select the schedule of courses as per their convenience.
The campus of PSU will be opened with all safety precautions and students will be able to access resources like the library, study space, child care, health and wellness services and some retails. Housing and food facilities will be open with all necessary precautions. There will be no restrictions on students to access technology and campus space for study.
