Founded in 1876, PVAMU is a member of the Texas A&M University System and Thurgood Marshall College Fund. In 1945, the name of the institution was changed from Prairie View Normal and Industrial College to Prairie View University. The institution is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award its various degrees. It offers courses in agriculture, mechanics arts, engineering, and the natural sciences. It ranks 87-113 in Regional Universities West, 67 in Top Performers on Social Mobility, 21 in Historically Black Colleges and Universities by the US News and World Report 2020 Edition.

Prairie View is a city in Waller County, Texas, United States, situated on the northwestern edge of Houston–The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area. The campus size is 1,502 acres. The university has over 50 buildings on its 1,440-acre (5.8 km2) main campus in Prairie View, Texas, which is 48.8 miles (78.5 km) northwest of downtown Houston. It offers baccalaureate degrees in 50 academic majors, 37 master's degrees, and four doctoral degree programs through eight colleges and the School of Architecture. Popular courses include Engineering; Health Professions, Business, Management, and Marketing.

Accomplishments & Alumni

Provided educational services and collaborated with international agencies such as UNESCO, Arab League (ALEXCO), United Nations Millennium Ecosystem, and Fulbright in supporting studies nationally and internationally. Notable alumni include Brian G. Cokes is a 3-time Prairie View A&M University graduate and Dr. Julie Guillory who has served in education for nearly 34 years.
