Tracing its roots back to as early as 1893,  The Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) or Southern, was officially set up as a degree-granting university back in 1937 just a few years off the start of WW-II. It is governed by the CSCU-BOR and is accredited by NECHE, NEASC, American Chemical Society (ACS), Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Professionals (CAAHEP), Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), ABET (Computer), Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) & National Association of School Psychology (NASP) in a list of 10+ academic accreditations.

SCSU is a historically high-ranked institution of high prestige being named in Princeton review's list of environmentally responsible colleges in the continent and the world consistently 2014 onward. The US News & World Report ranks Southern No.51  in Nursing & in Anesthesia, No.129 in Regional Universities (North), No.137 in Social Work and No.138 in Public Health.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

With 50+ Buildings including 10+ Residence halls, an extensive library, multiple computer labs and academic classrooms, conference halls and other academic buildings. Southern Connecticut State University has a vast 171-acre campus that houses all facilities among the School of Business, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Health and Human Services, College of Education & the School of Graduate and Professional Studies.

With just over 43 departments like Accounting, Finance, Computer, Physics, Biology, Nursing, Management, Business, Theater, Arts and many more, the most popular Degrees at SCSU are Liberal Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Liberal Studies, Management, Psychology, Public Health and Registered Nursing.

Accomplishments & Alumni

Being the only public university in the NCAA Division II in the NE-Ten Conference, Southern is also proud of managing 300+ scholarships that are available to both undergraduate and graduate students, promoting 100+ global destinations as international education programs destinations and providing access to 700+ students with disabilities throughout the Connecticut area, a number which is largest among any University in the state.

SCSU is also home to an Alumni Network service connecting over 2,00,000 alumni globally. Some very prominent names to have graduated from Southern are Timothy I. Ahern (US Air Force General), Tony Amendola (Actor), Warren Doyle (Former speed hiking record holder), Rep. Jahana Hayes (Politician and Congresswoman), Daniel Trust (Rwandan Genocide Survivor) & Norby Williamson (ESPN Vice President - Studio/Remote Production) to name a few.
