History, Affiliations & Rankings 

The State University of New York at Cortland (SUNY Cortland ) was founded in 1868. The University itself is accredited by MSACS, and the teacher education and training programs at the SUNY at Cortland are accredited by the NCATE. Similarly, around 22 programs are affiliated with respective accreditation agencies.

SUNY Cortland has been consistently ranked as one of the greenest colleges in the United States. It is ranked at 63rd position in the US News Regional ranking-North 2020 edition. It was also ranked at No. 117 in the USA out of 2,400 colleges and universities, highest among SUNY's colleges as a “Best College for Your Money”. 

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses  

The main campus is spread over  191 acres and is a residential college with almost half of the undergraduate students living on-campus. SUNY Cortland has three schools; School of Arts and Sciences, School of Education, School of Professional Studies, and through which  27 Departments are offering 67 Undergraduate Majors and  39 Graduate Programs inclusive of  Master's Degrees and Certificates of Advanced Study. The most popular majors at SUNY College--Cortland include: Education; Parks, Recreation, Leisure, and Fitness Studies; Social Sciences; Health Professions and Related Programs; and Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services.

Accomplishments & Alumni

SUNY Cortland has received federal acknowledgment for its community service by being nominated to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, eight years in a row. Also, SUNY Cortland has crossed several milestones in being a Green campus. To name a few; it was the first SUNY campus to operate all of its facilities using 100 percent renewable electric energy and was the first in SUNY to have a certified LEED Platinum Dorm. The University recycles 100% of all eligible plastic and metal containers in its food production facilities. In Sports, SUNY Cortland has won 25 national team titles in 10 sports, 100 individual national crowns, and more than 200 conference team championships which have been achieved in the past three decades only. 
Some of the popular alumni are Kevin James, William H. Thomas, Erin Ryder, Mark Staniszewski, Rob Figueroa, Jake Steinfeld, Tamdan McCrory, and many more.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

It is an attractive destination for higher education amongst international students as it receives applications not only from across the U.S. but the world. As a matter of fact, SUNY Cortland students come from 31 states and 45 countries.

Though a small county however there are a number of employers around the university and some of the companies which recruit from SUNY Cortland are Walmart, Albany International, NBT Bank, NA, Pall, Racker, Staples, and Marietta to name a few.
