SUNY College—Old Westbury is a public institution that was founded in 1965. University itself is accredited by MSCHE while all its programs have received approval from and are registered with the NYSED. Moreover, the Public health program has been accredited by CEPH and chemistry programs by ACS. SUNY College—Old Westbury's ranking in the 2020 edition of Best Colleges is Regional Universities North, #129-#170 by the US News ranking system.

SUNY Old Westbury campus is spread across 605-acres on the rural campus. The university has around 5,077 students enrolled out of which 4,77 are1 undergraduate students and 306 graduate students. The university offers  45 undergraduate majors for Bachelor students and 19 graduate degree programs which are offered by 4 Academic Schools (Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Professional Studies). The most popular majors at SUNY College--Old Westbury include: Psychology; Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services; and Philosophy and Religious Studies.
