SUNY College—Oneonta is a public institution that was founded in 1889. It has been accredited by MSCHE overall and by AACSB for Business, AAFCS for Human Ecology, ACEND for Nutrition and Dietetics, ACS for Chemistry, NASM for Music, NAST for Theatre, NCATE for Education and NCFR for Human Development and Family  Studies programs being taught at the university. According to the US News and World Report SUNY College—Oneonta's ranking in the 2020 edition of Best Colleges is Regional Universities North, #52.

SUNY Oneonta lies in a rural setting with a campus size of 250 acres. It offers more than 100 majors, minors, and cooperative programs, and 4 graduate programs to approximately 6066 enrolled students. Location wise, SUNY Oneonta is located in the middle of Albany and Binghamton. The most popular majors at SUNY--Oswego include: Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services; Communication, Journalism, and Related Programs; Biological and Biomedical Sciences; Education; and Health Professions and Related Programs.

Accomplishments & Alumni

SUNY Oneonta has been awarded the HEED award, 2017 by INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest publication with a focus on diversity in higher education. The university has an 83% retention rate. It is also amongst the 10 best colleges in New York for landing a job after college, according to a study published by Zippia, one of the famous job portal. It has also received Community Engagement Classification in recognition of the college’s civic partnerships and service-learning activities by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. SUNY Oneonta has also been awarded Excellence and Innovation Award in Sustainability and Sustainable Development by The American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). Some of the popular alumni are Edward Burns, Ronald J. Garan Jr., Roy J. McDonald, Amy Ignatow, Judy Griffin, Bill Karins, Kyle Hoffer, Jingyu Lin, Gary Sinise, and Caryl M. Stern.

The University is known for its diversity in New York, owing to the fact that it has a 22% color student population. It is also ranked at #1,134 in male to female diversity nationwide. The undergraduate population comprises 2,395 males and 3,545 females. The university is quite welcoming towards international students.
