The University of Utah is a public university situated in the Salt Lake City of Utah state, Western Region of USA. The university was established in 1850 as the University of Desert and later got renamed as the University of Utah in 1892. It is ranked amongst the top US research-based universities at 61st position with a research expenditure of more than 380 million USD in 2017. According to Washington Monthly, the university is ranked 84th in the US. The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) places the University of Utah within the range of 42-56 and the U.S. News & World Report 2021 ranks the university 97th among top universities in the country.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The University of Utah offers 100 undergraduate majors and approximately 92 postgraduate courses to local and international students. Apart from these, the university offers various research-based doctoral courses to students. The deserving students get scholarships at all levels provided they complete their documentation properly. The university has 17 colleges and schools with 150 departments to educate students in all the possible career disciplines. It focuses on giving the best educational facility to its students and creating an environment where students can achieve the highest standards of knowledge. The University of Utah provides hostel facilities for international students in a housing complex with 33 buildings on the campus. The 1,534 acres campus has everything that a student would need, health centres, libraries, sports complexes and playgrounds. Sports and Athletics are encouraged by the university, there are about 8 mens and 11 womens sports teams that participate in national and international competitions and championships.

Accomplishments & Alumni

The University of Utah has several notable accomplishments to its name. The Utes, which are the athletic teams of the varsity, participate as a member of the Pac - 12 Conference in NCAA Division 1 athletics (FBS for football). The football team of the University of Utah has been given national attention as it had won the Fiesta Bowl of 2005 and the Sugar Bowl of 2009. Many awards have been given to the university for its curriculum and programmes. Many famous politicians, lawyers, diplomats and businessmen of today are significant alumni of the University of Utah. It has produced leaders in fields of not just corporate and law but also in social activism, athletics, and science and engineering.

Merit Scholarships

Merit Scholarships are provided to students in their Freshmen year with excellent academic records. There is no application form for or procedure for these scholarships, the application form to the University of Utah acts as the application form for the Merit scholarships. Students with good SAT or ACT scores are preferred while selecting the students. Students must make sure that they apply at the University of Utah before November 1. Here is a list of Merit scholarships available for international students:

Need-based Scholarships

Need-Based Scholarships are granted to students who need financial support to complete their education. In order to get these scholarships, students have to submit income tax receipts of their parents along with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form by February 1. These scholarships last only for a year and the student has to reapply after that.

  • Apply for the scholarships before the deadline, attach all the required documents and receipts in the first go only. 

  • For certain scholarship, CIS profile is needed, students can create their profiles at cis.utha.edu. The login id and password can be the same as mentioned in the application form

Teaching, Research And Graduate Assistantships

Graduate students who are interested in teaching and research projects can apply for this scholarship by directly approaching their department’s admission office. Thomas G. Stockham Medal for Conspicuously Effective Teaching

Grant - 1,000 USD

This award is provided to the recipient of the Stockham Medal for a year, the candidates are selected by the mentors and advisors. The candidate should be pursuing a full-time course from the University of Utah. 

Garr Cutler Energy Award 

Grant - 1,500 USD
Deadline - December 

This grant is provided to graduate students in their final term on the basis of their research or paper work by the experts of that filed. 

University-Sponsored Fellowships and Scholarships

University Teaching Assistantships

Grant - 18,250 USD 
Deadline - January 

This assistantship is provided to full-time graduate students who have completed the first year of their course. The student is expected to teach and assist undergraduate students in their curriculum. The application for this assistantship can be filled and submitted online. 

Steffensen Cannon Scholarship

This scholarship is provided to graduate students who have successfully completed the first year of their course from the Colleges of Education and Humanities. To apply for this scholarship, the applicant can apply online at the official website of Steffensen Cannon Scholarship.
