Founded in 1791, the University of Vermont is the fifth oldest in the New England area. Being located in one of the most beautiful regions in the USA has helped it earn the title of Universitas Viridis Montis (UVM), or University of the Green Mountains. Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

University of Vermont is a public research university offering over a 100 undergraduate, 54 postgraduate, 34 doctoral as well as several other programmes. The University not only has top-tier study and research opportunities available but also a vibrant campus life and beautiful natural spaces to explore in its vicinity.The campus is located in Burlington, Vermont and expands across an area of 460 acres. Students are also provided with on-campus residential facilities in the nine residential complexes. The university also provides some specialised facilities to its students like on-campus medical centres, Stafford Center for Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, A STEM complex, medical library etc.Students of the university are encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities and sports clubs. 86% of the students are engaged in these extracurricular activities

The University of Vermont has a UVM Alumni Association which is a community to maintain lifelong relationships with the UVM alumni. There are more than 120,000 UVM alumni across the world who are engaged in different activities and professions.The university encourages the members of the UVM community to stay connected within its alma mater and exchange their academic and professional experience with the current students of the university.Most of the students who graduate from the university are either employed full time or get an opportunity within 6 months of the completion of the course. According to reports, 92% of seniors of the university are engaged in research, internship or higher education and they satisfied with their position.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

More than 13,500 students from 67 countries are enrolled in its programmes, making it a great place to experience a global atmosphere and thriving cultural diversity. With over 200 student clubs, including 60+ sports clubs available to join, the university ensures that campus life is exciting for its students. The university has 18 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams and almost all of the students living on campus are involved in co-curricular activities.

COVID-19 Response

  • University of Vermont has both At-Home Learning and On-Campus learning facilities for students for the Spring term 2021.

  • At-Home Learning facilities are for those students who will not be able to return to campus for the upcoming Spring semester.

  • At-Home Learning provides flexibility to students to choose online (asynchronous), remote (synchronous) and a mix of course. Such students can reside in an off-campus facilities

  • Students enrolled in At-Home Learning facilities can access the tutorials, digital library resources, advising and writing support. No physical access can be provided under any circumstances.

  • Students who want to enrol for on-campus facilities must commit to the green and gold promise as defined by the university. For such students study space and on-campus facilities will be provided. Housing and dining facilities will be available on campus.

  • Those who choose on-campus facilities will have to undergo COVID 19 testing and follow the guidelines on arrival at the campus.

Financial Aid for Undergraduate International Applicants

All international applicants enrolled in undergraduate programmes at the University of Vermont are automatically considered for Merit-based Scholarships. Candidates do not have to fill any separate application form but the information submitted along with the online application is reviewed for the following scholarships: 

Presidential Scholarship

Presidential Scholarship is awarded to out-of-state first-year students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance in the previous years of studies. 

Value: The scholarship amount ranges from $17,000 to $18,000 annually. Up to $20,000 is offered annually to students per annum to students enrolled in the Honors College as incoming first-time students.

Trustees Scholarship

Trustees Scholarship is also a merit-based scholarship awarded to out-of-state first-year students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance in the previous years of studies. 

It is awarded for up to years of studies and is renewable. 

Value: $8,000 - $15,000 per annum

Eligibility for Renewal of Merit-based Scholarships 

  • Must maintain CGPA of 3.0

  • Must be enrolled in at least 12 credits per semester.

  • Renewal eligibility is evaluated at the end of each Spring Term.

Financial Aid for Graduate School Applicants

There are multiple options available for international candidates to fund their postgraduate study at the University of Vermont. Candidates can look for Graduate Teaching Assistantships, Research Assistantships as well as departmental and international scholarships available at the university.

Candidates must check the information specific to their department or programme of application to find the funding options open to them. The university website also has multiple points of resources available for international applicants to ensure that students can afford their study at the University of Vermont.

The university also recommends its graduate school students to use resources such as Scholarships a-z. MPower Financing and Pivot to find third-party financial aid options viable to them. Candidates are also free to contact the Graduate School Dean’s Office for help regarding financial aid.
