History, Affiliations & Rankings 

University of California-San Francisco (UCSF) was founded in 1864 by surgeon Hugh Toland as a private medical school. UC San Francisco is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Senior College and University Commission (together known as WSCUC), one of six regional accrediting associations in the United States. From its inception till today, UCSF has established Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy, the Graduate Division. The UCSF Medical Center is the nation's 7th-ranked hospital and California's 2nd highest-ranked hospital according to U.S. News & World Report 2020 edition. UCSF’s graduate schools — Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy — as well as its graduate programs in basic science, social science, and global health — has been continuously ranked amongst the top in the world by U.S. News & World Report. 

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Spread across 55-acres, UCSF has four professional schools i.e. Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy, the Institute of Global Health Sciences and the Graduate Division.

UCSF Affiliates are Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, San Francisco VA Medical Center, Zuckerberg San Francisco General, Gladstone Institutes. As an education provider, UCSF offers approx 19 Ph.D. programs, 11 master’s programs, two certificate programs and one physical therapy program in the fields related to bioengineering, chemistry, epidemiology and the social sciences. The most sought after courses are Engineering, Biomedical, Pharmacy and Biochemistry.

Accomplishments & Alumni

UCSF stands as one of the prominent economy booster institutions in San Francisco and the nine-county Bay Area. It is also the top public beneficiary of the most sought after funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). It is identified as one of the greatest research universities with 1800+ active innovations and 185+ startups. Five UCSF scientists have received the most prestigious Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. As of now, UCSF in collaboration with public agencies to address the rapidly evolving outbreak and protect our people. Its main inventions with respect to maximum revenue generator are related to Hepatitis B Vaccine, Ablation Device for Atrial Fibrillation, Bovine Growth Hormone, Sickle Cell Disease Research Tools

UCSF classroom students, residents and research scholars attending UCSF represent 94 countries hence making it an ideal destination for international students. Since it is primarily a research university, most of the students opt for higher education which can be a second master or a Ph.D. program however pharmaceutical program students gets placed into Pharmaceutical companies and to mention some of them are McKesson, BioMarin Pharmaceutical, Revance Therapeutics, Ardelyx, Impax Laboratories, Diablo Clinical Research, Geron Corporation, Jennerex.
