History, Affiliations & Ranking
Tracing its roots back to 1859 with the establishment of the Medical College of Alabama, the University of Alabama Birmingham was first formed through the combination of the Medical College of Alabama and the Birmingham Extension Centre, in 1966. UAB was able to receive autonomy in 1969 and subsequently became an independent institution. The University of Alabama Birmingham has been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges among other high renowned accreditation authorities. UAB has also been ranked No.1 by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings in the 2019 Young University Rankings. Meanwhile, the university has also been ranked 133 overall in Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The University of Alabama Birmingham offers a wide range of courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Providing education in 12 different fields, viz. Arts & Sciences, Business, Education, Dentistry, Health Professions, Engineering, Medicine, Nursing, Optometry and Public Health Along with different Honours courses as well. With over 140 courses on offer, the University of Alabama has been listed as one of the top Institutes for Research in the USA. UAB has been ranked at 133 overall for Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities. Meanwhile, UAB has been ranked at 36 for the same in Clinical Medicine, 42nd in Immunology and 96th rank in Life Sciences. These accolades were given out based on the scientific paper volume and its performance output and impact. Among the other accomplishments of UAB includes being marked as No.1 nationally for Young University Ranking, meanwhile, it ranked 12th globally for the same.

More than 1,160 students are currently studying various graduate, masters and doctoral programmes. Fighting the spread of COVID-19 across the globe, the University of Alabama at Birmingham has taken the necessary steps to maintain the health and safety of the students, staff and faculty members. All stakeholders, visiting the campus and accessing campus facilities will be asked to participate in the COVID-19 regulations and routines to keep COVID-19 spread at bay. Many changes to the course-delivery methods, campus sanitisation and COVID testing processes have been adopted by the university for this purpose as well.
A blended model of learning has been adopted for the Fall 2020 session at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Students will be able to access quality education through in-person classes, hybrid models and completely online models as well. Each faculty will update the students on which course-delivery method has been adopted for the session.
Students will be offered additional resources if the need arises. For instance, laptops at loan, retail support, public WiFi, and Virtual Desktop Technology are some of the facilities available to students, staff and faculty members.
Social Distancing measures will be strictly implemented on-campus. Everyone involved will be required to wear cloth or disposable face-masks. Other measures include maintaining a 6 feet distance, following the campus signages for better foot traffic control, and much more.
