History, Affiliation and Rankings

The University of Colorado took off by forming the Department of Medicine and Surgery in September 1883. Later on in 1898, the Department of Nursing was created. These later developed into University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Then in 1912, Extension Center of University of Colorado’s Department of Correspondence and Extension was the beginning of the University of Colorado.The University of Colorado Denver finally got its name in October, 2007. US News ranks the University of Colorado Denver at 254 in National Universities, 90 in Top Performers on Social Mobility, and 123 in Top Public Schools. The University of Colorado Denver is ranked at #=392 by the QS Ranking 2020.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The University of Colorado’s infrastructure includes three campuses: Auraria campus for CU Denvers, CU Anschutz Medical Campus for health professional students to practice and learn, and CU South Denver for University of Colorado’s satellite location. Awarding 2437  undergraduate degrees in 2017-2018, University of Colorado Denver is offering 38 distinct undergraduate degrees which comprise 36 majors from 22 broad fields of study. Business Administration and Management, Nursing, General Biology, Communication and Media Studies, and General Psychology are the most popular majors at the university. 

Accomplishments & Alumni

The extremely talented faculty include Five Nobel Laureates—David Wineland, physics, 2012; John Hall, physics, 2005; Eric Cornell and Carl Wieman, physics, 2001; Thomas Cech, chemistry, 1989 and Nine MacArthur fellowships; and the Carnegie Foundation’s Professor of the Year awarded to Carl Wieman in 2004 and Steven Pollock, U.S. Professor of the Year 2013-14. The University has alumni in different fields, such as Isaac Slade - american musician, Michael Hancock - 45th mayor of Denver, Rick Alden - founder of Skullcandy, and John Morse - Politician.
