History, Affiliations & Rankings
Tracing its roots back to as early as 1961 when NASA was set up in the vicinity of Clear Lake near Houston, The University of Houston–Clear Lake was formally established and has been operational since 1974. The University takes pride in being accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and has programme accreditation such as AACSB (Business), CAEP (Education), ACEN (Nursing), NSCA (Sport Sciences/Health), NASP (Psychology), CSWE (Social Work), COAMFTE (Family Therapy) and ABET(Engineering, Computing, Applied+Natural Science). The University has also performed consistently well among various Ranking Systems. QS Global World Ranking 2020 ranks the university at 651-700. The US News ranks the university at 43rd in Regional Universities West and at 25th position in Best Value Schools.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
It has world-class facilities such as Performing Arts theater that was originally established in 1976 and revived in 2015, the local areas largest art gallery in addition to the four newly established buildings in 2019 which were the STEM and classroom building, recreation and wellness center, hostels and dormitory Hunter Hall & the Health Sciences and Classroom Building. All of this is set up within the University's 524-acre campus, which also houses the College of Human Sciences and Humanities, College of Science and Engineering, College of Education and the College of Business. The University offers Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate Studies in the fields of business, management, marketing, health professions, psychology; social sciences; and multi/interdisciplinary studies.
Accomplishments & Alumni
The University of Houston- Clear lake has established links to NASA opening its Manned Space Program Facilities near Clear Lake. The University has the honour of having five current employees including three Professors, one Head of Department and one Vice President who have been working closely with NASA. The University is also proud to have an alumni base of 64,000+ with an astounding 34% alumni choosing to be directly involved in boosting the Greater Houston region with 10 Astronauts on the alumni list not to mention the 400+ CEO's named on the same alumni list. Prominent among them are Guion Stewart Bluford Jr., aerospace engineer, Kevin Kwan is a Singaporean novelist, and Amber S. Gell, engineer, scientist, and STEM education advocate.
