History, Affiliations & Rankings

University of Northern Colorado started as a State Normal School of Colorado for providing training in teacher education. It was established in 1889. Later on, it was established as a public research university  in Greeley, Colorado. It is ranked between 298-231 of best colleges in National Universities as per the US News and World Report 2020.  According to THE rankings 2019, it is ranked as top 600 universities in the world.

All programmes at University of Northern Colorado are accredited by the specialised accrediting bodies. Some of the accrediting bodies are Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics, Colorado State Board of Nursing American Psychological Association, Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International, CAATE: Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education, Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education, National Association of Schools of Music, and National Association of Schools of Theatre.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The campus is spread over 236 acre land located 48 Kms from the rocky mountains. University of Northern Colorado offers more than 100 majors at undergraduate level and 120 graduate programmes.  The university has a one-of-its-kind music library situated within the university main campus. It has enormous sports facilities including swimming, indoor track, tennis courts etc. 

Accomplishments and Alumni Network

The College of Performing and Visual Arts at UNCO annually hosts approximately 250 public events. The Downbeat magazine named University Orchestra as the top university orchestra in the U.S. consecutively 7 times in the last 10 years. UNC's graduate program in Sport Administration has earned a top 5 worldwide ranking from the various  publications covering the international sport business community. Some of the notable alumni studied at University of Northern Colorado include Tyler Ward - Musician, David N. Senty, Major General of US Air Force and Ed Werder, ESPN reporter.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

University of Northern Colorado has 9876 undergraduate student enrollment with 35% male and 65% female students. The university maintains a student faculty ratio of 17:1.  During Fall 2018, the acceptance rate at UNCO was 91% for undergraduate students.  Top employers include UC Health, Hewlett Packard, Anheuser-Busch, and Otter Box to name a few.
