Overview

Fairfax University of America (FXUA, formerly Virginia International University) is a private university located in Fairfax, Virginia, the United States. The university was founded in 1998 as a for-profit university, and subsequently in 1999 as a non-profit institution. In July 2003, the University enrolled its first batch of graduate students from the Washington metropolitan region, and in April 2004, it began offering online teaching. The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) has approved the university to operate in Virginia, In addition, it is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools to issue certificate courses, bachelor's degrees, and master's degrees. FXUA is also accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC), a commission authorised by the US Department of Education.

New Horizon Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate and graduate students (domestic and international) who meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Must reside in areas affected by a recent natural disaster or civil unrest.

• Must be enrolled or apply for a full-time position in one of FXUA's on-campus, undergraduate or graduate programmes.

Amount: From USD 1,000 to full tuition, to be divided over two successive semesters.

Availability: Spring, Fall, Summer I, and Summer II

• A Personal statement of success of at least 500 words is required.

• Evidence of recent natural catastrophes or civil turmoil in the place of residence.

Special Achievement Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate and graduate students (domestic and international) who meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Must apply for an on-campus undergraduate or graduate programme at FXUA.

• Must be in excellent academic standing and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. (on a 4.0 scale).

• Must be able to demonstrate considerable excellence and expertise in a demonstrated talent, accomplishment, and/or professional sector.

• Each semester, students must enrol in at least two courses (Graduate programme) or three courses (Undergraduate programme).

Amount: USD 1,000 to USD 3,000 to be divided over two successive semesters.

Availability: Spring, Fall, and Summer I

Regional Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate and graduate students (domestic and international) who meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Must apply as a full-time student to one of FXUA's on-campus undergraduate or graduate programmes.

• You must be an alumnus or a first-time applicant to any of FXUA's academic programmes.

Amount: USD 500 up to full tuition - to be split over two successive semesters.

Availability: Spring, Fall, and Summer

On-Campus Accommodation

Fairfax University of America (FXUA) does not provide on-campus housing for students. However, they do assist students in finding housing outside of campus. A student residing in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region may expect to pay around USD 12,550 every academic year (9 months).

Off-Campus Accommodation

American Homestay Network: It is where overseas students are taken care of by a host family. To remain with the host family, the student must first fulfil the following steps:

• Complete a lengthy protocol.

• Submit the USD 300 matching fee.

• Students can request transportation to and from the university, however, this comes at an extra expense.

Apartment Rentals: It is intended for students who would like to rent an apartment as a group or as an individual. The monthly rental costs might range from USD 1,200 to USD 2,000. All rental units are within 2 miles of the Fairfax University of America campus and need a security deposit.
