Since its establishment in 1890, Washington State University has been successful in producing analytical and critical thinkers every year. Since its inception as a land grant, WSU has been one of the renowned public research universities in the country while keeping a focus on accessibility and public service. As per the Carnegie Classification, WSU has been ranked among the top 131 US Colleges and Universities out of over 6500 educational institutions, that has been named as a Doctoral University with a “very high research activity”.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The Washington State University has a total of 5 campuses, with WSU Pullman being the major campus. Along with WSU Pullman campus, students will be able to pursue the course of their choice at WSU Campuses in Spokane, Tri-Cities, Vancouver and Everett. At Washington State University, students will be able to pursue any one among a total of 95 undergraduate majors, 86 minors, and over 100 in-major specialisations. WSU Pullman offers nearly 150 graduate and professional degree programmes. Students from different countries choose to pursue one of the 78 masters degrees as well as 65 doctoral degrees.

Covid-19 Response

Washington State University aims at considering the evolving circumstances to provide an environment where international students may pursue higher education while also feeling safe. Complying with health and safety guidelines, the university has decided to deliver all undergraduate programmes at a distance with limited exceptions for face-to-face classes. Faculty and staff at WSU are taking measures to provide every student with academics and campus life of the highest standard amid the pandemic. 

Following are the measures adopted by the university keeping in mind the current recommendations and laws for the safety of the WSU community:

  • Shifting to the online mode of learning for all Fall 2020 semester students.

  • Cooperating with health authorities across the state to enable contact tracing.

  • Development of a plan for the availability of facilities on campus for Fall 2020. 

  • Appropriate face-covering in indoor public spaces and outdoor.

  • Putting physical distancing policies in place for all in-person classes, activities, events and meetings. 

  • Providing mandatory training for all students to ensure public health guidelines are in operation.

  • Assisting aspirants when they will be ready to attend classes on campus. 

  • Availability numerous majors that can be completed 100% online at the WSU Global Campus.

Scholarship for International Students at Washington State University

Qualifying international students are automatically considered for scholarship at Washington State University. The Office of International Programme offers scholarships to international students who are eligible for scholarship. 

Following table shows the scholarship offered to international students at the university:




Value of Scholarship 

Level One 

3.60 or above

$4,000 per academic year tuition waiver

Level Two 

3.30 to 3.59

$2,000 per academic year tuition waiver


The scholarship is renewed if the student meets the following criteria:

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2.
  • Maintain 12 credits in each semester.

International Merit Awards

Students holding F1 Visa are offered and enrolled for admission in undergraduate studies at Pullman campus are eligible for International Merit Awards. Following are the criteria to be amongst which candidates must meet at least one:

  • Must hold a minimum GPA of 3.60.
  • Must offer some unusual service to the university or community.
  • Must demonstrate extraordinary achievements.

Candidates must submit the Office of International Programs Awards and Scholarship Application Form to be eligible for the scholarship. Following documents must be submitted with the application form:

  • Personal Statement
  • Letter of Recommendation

The scholarship covers a $2,000 tuition waiver. 

Emergency Tuition Support Award

The scholarship is offered to students who are enrolled at the university and need financial aid in circumstances which are beyond their control like loss of scholarship or financial aid, loss of funding due to death or illness  etc.

Following are the points which is considered while offering Emergency Tuition Support Award:

  • The student must hold an F1 or J1 Visa at WSU Pullman.
  • The student must be in the final year of the degree programme.
  • There must not be any other source of funding. 

Students must fill in the Office of International Programs Awards and Scholarship Application Form to be considered for the award.

Applicants must fill in the certificate of financial status and provide all the supporting documents along with the application. A detailed explanation of the cause of loss of funds and the academic status must be provided.

Value: One time award. $1500 reduction to the tuition fees. 

Departmental and Programme Awards

Individual department offers scholarships to international students. Candidates must submit WSU general scholarship to be considered for awards offered by the individual department.

The eligibility criteria varies department-wise. Candidates can check the details of scholarship and required documents through the official website of the department.
