Founded in 1904, Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT) is a private, technical design and engineering university in Boston, Massachusetts. It offers career-focused education through its 19 bachelor's degree programmes as well as master's degrees. Wentworth gained accreditation from the National Architectural Accrediting Board in 1991. In 1993, Wentworth introduced a pair of five-year engineering programmes to the curriculum: electromechanical engineering, and environmental science. In 2002, these programmes received initial accreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Commission. In November 2009, Wentworth became a master's degree-granting institution, with the creation and accreditation of its Master of Architecture programme. The University is ranked 501-600th US Rankings 2020 by Times Higher Education.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The University is located in the urban areas of Boston with a modest campus size of 31 acres. Wentworth offers bachelor's degrees in 18 engineering, technology, design, and management majors. As a fundamental part of Wentworth education, the institute requires students to complete two cooperative education semesters in work placements. Accelerate is Wentworth's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center to host a series of programmes and workshops to nurture a culture of innovation and entrepreneurial thinking among students. Top courses offered include General Architecture, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, and Design & Applied Arts.

Accomplishments & Alumni

Wentworth is a member of the Colleges of the Fenway consortium — an association of five Fenway area institutions. The Institute's collaborating neighbors include the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Northeastern University, the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and the Museum of Fine Arts. The Center for Community and Learning Partnerships supports neighborhood concerns while enhancing the educational and professional environment at Wentworth. Prominent alumni include Russell Colley, designer of the spacesuits worn by Alan Shepard and his colleagues and David Lovering, the drummer for Boston alternative rock band. 

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

As many as 7% of the student body are Asians. Almost 80% of the undergraduate students are male and only 20% of women. With approximately 34% of the students belonging to the age group of 18-19 years, international students are represented by about 350 students from 36 countries. The careers services at the universities facilitate on-campus and off-campus jobs. International students are required to obtain a letter of clearance from the International Services Department before securing a job. Top companies that hire here are UPS, Ready4, Trip advisor and Cargurus.
