Can a non-Goa candidate take GCET 2023?

Can a non-Goa candidate take GCET 2023? Goa is home to some of the top engineering colleges in India and so, each year, thousands of aspirants apply through the various entrance examinations that offer B. Tech seats in these institutes. The GCET (Goa Common Entrance Test) is one such popular and important examination. It is a state-level entrance test conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Goa, for admission to the best engineering colleges in Goa. Following the release of the GCET 2023 Result, the exam authority conducts state-level counselling to offer seats to qualified candidates based on their GCET scores and ranks. However, one common query that many students often come up with is whether or not candidates belonging to other states are eligible to apply for admission to the GCET 2023 participating institutes. To answer the question, yes, candidates from other states are eligible for the Goa CET exam but they cannot apply through any reservation criteria specified under the regulations of DTE, Goa. This article features all the details regarding GCET eligibility for admission to B. Tech engineering colleges in Goa through GCET 2023.

As per the GCET eligibility criteria mentioned by DTE, Goa, any candidate holding citizenship in India irrespective of the residing state can apply for B. Tech admission through GCET 2023. Thus, there is no restriction on aspirants coming from other states. However, there will be no special reservations for such candidates as per the policy.

Admission Process Through GCET for Other State Candidates

The admission process through Goa CET 2023 for non-Goa candidates is the same as for those who are residents of the state. The admission is done through GCET Counselling 2023 in stages which include online registration, choice filling and locking, document verification, seat allotment, and reporting to the allotted institute. It is to be noted that the seats are allotted on the basis of availability, as well as the candidate’s GCET scores, ranks etc.

The detailed admission process for candidates belonging to states other than Goa can be checked below:

Non-Goa candidates who qualify for the GCET 2023 exam must register online through the official portal of DTE – www.dte.goa.gov.in.

Merit List

The merit list of all shortlisted candidates based on GCTE scores 2023 will be released by the Directorate of Technical Education, Goa.

Seat Allotment

Is there any reservation quota for non-Goa candidates?

Candidates from other states must keep in mind that GCET 2023 reservation criteria shall not be applicable to them. Furthermore, the first preference will be given to candidates belonging to the home state i.e. Goa. Other state candidates shall be offered seats on the basis of availability after the final round of GCET 2023 counselling.

What are the alternatives for other state candidates seeking admission to B. Tech colleges in Goa?

For other state candidates, JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) serves as an alternative to GCET. The engineering entrance test organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA) is held annually right after the Class 12 Boards or equivalent examination. The JEE scores are widely accepted in all engineering colleges across India, including Goa. Therefore, the chances of selection in the best B. Tech institutes are far greater.

There are also several private B. Tech colleges in Goa that conduct their own entrance exams for admission. These colleges have no specific domicile rules and offer seats solely based on the merit of the candidate. Candidates must visit the official college websites for more details.
