What to do when two candidates tie on the same CEED or UCEED score? This is where the CEED & UCEED tie-breaker policy comes into action. So, check out what is the tie-breaker policy for CEED and UCEED and more details.
CEED & UCEED Tie-Breaker Policy

CEED & UCEED Tie-Breaker Policy 2024: Applicants who have appeared for the CEED & UCEED entrance exam this academic year must be awaiting the results, but before that, they must be aware of the tie-breaker policy. CEED & UCEED tie-breaker policy comes into effect when two more students score the same marks. This policy is framed by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.

Candidates with higher scores in Part B will be awarded a higher rank, as per UCEED tie-breaker policy. In CEED, students who qualify for Part B will only be awarded a merit rank. The tie-breaker policy will help in determining the final rankings for the counselling process.

IIT Bombay is the conducting body of both the Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED) and the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) exams. The CEED entrance exam selects candidates for postgraduate programmes while the UCEED exam is for selecting potential candidates for undergraduate programmes. Both CEED and UCEED exams are divided into two parts: A and B, which carry separate marks distribution. It must be noted that the marks of both parts will be considered for the final merit list. Refer to this complete article to understand the CEED & UCEED Tie-Breaker Policy 2024.

UCEED Tie-Breaker Policy

The UCEED tie-breaker policy will be applied if two or more candidates score the same total marks. This policy is used to grant rank to the candidate which will help them seek admission to their dream college. Check out the policy below:

  • The candidate who has scored higher marks in Part B of the entrance will be awarded a higher rank.
  • However, if the first criterion does not help break the tie, a higher rank will be given to a candidate with more marks in section 2 of Part A.
  • Even if both the above criteria do not constitute breaking the tie, then the candidate with a higher score in section 1 of Part A will be assigned a higher rank.
  • Lastly, if the tie continues, then candidates will be awarded the same rank.
Candidates who have qualified for the entrance exam will be shortlisted and assigned ranks. The rank will be awarded based on the total marks scored in Part A and Part B of the UCEED exam.

However, in case candidates secure the same total marks, the tie-breaker policy will be applied. The rank of the candidates will include both Part A & B marks. The CEED tiebreaker is effective when two candidates get the same marks. In this entrance exam, candidates who qualify for Part A will be awarded merit rank and the ones qualifying the Part B will be listed in the final merit list.

Can I get into IIT with UCEED?

Yes, candidates can get into undergraduate B.Des courses available at different IIT campuses such as Delhi, Bombay, and Guwahati through UCEED scores. Apart from IIT candidates can also take admission in other institutes via the scores of this entrance.

How is the UCEED tiebreaker decided?

The UCEED tiebreaker is decided by the highest score of the candidate in Part B. If this doesn’t break the tie, then the highest score in Section 2 of Part A is considered.
