UPSC CSE Salary: Perks & Other Benefits

Officers chosen by the UPSC CSE get benefits such as an official apartment, official vehicles with a driver, paid leaves, educational resources, free or subsidised utilities, servants, access to government guest rooms, security personnel, etc. These are the specifics of the benefits:
  • Official Residence: Whether IAS, IPS, or members of other services, all officers typically receive a government bungalow or a three-bedroom flat. If they are unable to obtain government assistance, HRA is offered. In the nation where they are deployed, IFS officers are given government housing. While travelling, officers can make use of the amenities in government guest houses.

  • Utility Services: These include free or discounted water, electricity, phone service, cooking gas, etc. for officers.

  • Security: Two police officers and three home guards are available to IAS officers as protection. The level of protection offered for different services varies depending on the circumstances.

  • Official Vehicles: If someone works for the government, they will be provided with a vehicle and a driver for official purposes.

  • Medical treatment: Officers are provided with free or state-subsidized medical care. Health Insurance benefits are also provided to officers.

  • Leaves: Officers chosen through the UPSC CSE are entitled to 30 earned leaves, 8 casual leaves, 20 holidays that are gazetted, and about 20 half-pay leaves.

  • Hardship Allowance: Officers serving in Naxal-affected regions, Ladakh, and the North East are also given a hardship or difficult location allowance. It fluctuates between INR 18,000 and INR 25,500 a month.

  • Education Resources: All India Services (IAS, IPS, and IFS) personnel can take a two-year paid vacation and receive study benefits in order to attend Indian or foreign universities after serving for seven years. Officers must first sign a bond with the government promising to provide their services for a specified number of years in order to use this facility.

  • Pension: Officers who joined before 2004 receive a lifelong pension from government funds as part of their post-retirement perks. Officers who joined after 2004 will get pensions in accordance with their specific pension plans. Additionally, government employees can apply for extensions and post-retirement positions. Both the State and Union Cabinet Secretaries receive residential plots upon retirement.
