Established on May 23, 1967, Saurashtra University is spread across a sprawling 363 acres of land in Rajkot. This public university claims to host the best learning experience and research facilities for students. Accredited by NAAC with an 'A', the University has 238 colleges affiliated with it. There are about 29 departments at Saurashtra University including Architecture, Science, Management, Law, Social Sciences, etc. but over the last few years, the university has not managed to grab a place in the NIRF Rankings.

Saurashtra University course fee mostly ranges between INR 40k per annum to INR 2.5 LPA. Saurashtra University is one of the largest universities in the state of Gujarat, offering multiple courses. The batch size of each discipline is fairly decent. The University has a dedicated placement cell that arranges Mega Placement Fairs every year for its students. However, to not make students too complacent, it is wise for the university to set some ground rules for students to abide by, in order to be eligible for applying to on-campus placement opportunities rather than simply receiving the benefits as a perk of being a university student.

Classroom

Saurashtra University's infrastructure is divided into separate buildings for particular schools of disciplines. Each and every classroom is fully air-conditioned and well-furnished, spacious and equipped with all necessary amenities. Additionally, the entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled. Hygiene and cleanliness is a major highlight of the University campus. Each classroom has a capacity to seat about 50-60 students at once. Internet Connection

The internet connection at Saurashtra University is quite stable and strong. There is Wi-Fi access in every classroom, hostel room, activity room, etc. The entire campus has a pretty good internet connection. Students do not have anything to say about internet access negatively. However, the newly admitted candidates must wait for a limited period of time to get access. 

Library

Saurashtra University's library is one of the largest University libraries in Gujarat, constituting a huge section of the University. The library is not only well-stocked with study materials but also has a wide variety of books of more than 2 lakhs books from every genre for students to grab a read. Earlier, when the university was first established, Saurashtra University essentially had a collection of only 3 thousand books. However, the current growth rate of the Saurashtra University library is around 3000 books per year, 350 bound volumes, and 100 theses/dissertations per year. The entire library is air-conditioned and completely automated. It is also equipped with Xerox machines, printers, fax machines, computers, and other amenities. A separate reference section with university-recommended literature for each course is also included.

Laboratories

Saurashtra University offers a high-quality laboratory experience to the students studying at the University. With a number of high-tech laboratories spread across the campus, Saurashtra University laboratories are equipped with modern technologies, along with a decent seating capacity, and in-stock availability of laboratory equipment. There are separate laboratories for each department in order to cater for the demands of the different categories of students at once. Each laboratory is looked after by specified lab persons, to keep all the amenities available and safe for student's use. Moreover, all laboratories are air-conditioned and equipped with high-end servers. Interestingly, there are several additional power units for each laboratory, providing power backup to all machines 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Hostel

Saurashtra University's hostel facilities are considered top-notch in the entire state of Gujarat. Not only are the rooms well furnished, fully air-conditioned and clean, but they are spacious and properly equipped with the basic everyday student necessities. The University hostels are provided with R.O. drinking water 24*7 with a water cooling system, power supply backup, solar water heater, laundry facilities, entertainment zones, food, and 24*7 security services. The hostels are typically located amidst the large fields inside the campus area, providing a good view of the entire University campus to the students residing in the hostel buildings. There are separate wings for male and female candidates, with a common room for each in their respective wings. All hostel buildings are assigned a warden and an in-charge in the absence of a warden, a gymnasium, an activity room, an auditorium, etc. 

Canteen

Saurashtra University's canteen space is an added bonus to the University campus facilities. As we know, the significance of the canteen in any college campus is undeniably crucial, the canteen at Saurashtra University stands as an important part of the campus overview, with its huge space and a number of good facilities. It is fully air-conditioned, with modern furnishings and an automatic cooking system. The canteen has clean running water and a huge food storage facility. All students are always served hot meals and beverages from the wide array of menus available. Special focus on hygiene and cleanliness is always maintained in the canteen kitchen. Moreover, the prices of the food items are also priced at reasonable rates. 

Health Care Facility 

There's 24*7 medical assistance available inside the Saurashtra University campus for students belonging to all disciplines. Additionally, there are separate medical healthcare facilities stationed near the hostel wings, along with a doctor on call. 

Sports 

The Saurashtra institution has a good reputation for its emphasis on sports activities for its students. Therefore, it is no surprise that the college campus hosts a number of sports activity centres for its students to indulge in, apart from focusing on medical studies. The college campus has multiple numbers of separate courts for Basketball, Badminton, Football, Cricket, Volleyball, etc., along with a number of gymnasiums and auditoriums. One of the most interesting features of the Saurashtra University campus is the Day Care Centre facilities that the authority offers. The daycare centre inside the University campus allows children of all ages between three months and six years to spend their leisure time at the daycare facility. A large number of toys and informative games are stocked up at the daycare centre for children to have a good time. There is also a large playground for them inside the centre, which has a lot of fun outdoor activities such as see-saws, Zola's, sliding strips, bicycles, tricycles, etc. They also use current audio-visual devices such as televisions and DVD players to entertain the children at times.

Our Take:

The infrastructure of Saurashtra University is very beautiful, but the students often struggle to access all the areas. As per some alumni, the college is not consistent when it comes to food, as the food contractors keep changing. Some students say that sports equipment is not sufficient while others say that the gym facility is not suitable for college students.

According to the reports, while most students are usually granted admission from within the state, the University also pays attention to equal representation in terms of diversity.
